doesn't sound like you hooked it up right, especially if your car is running okay. i believe the four wires are two white, one black and one grey, and it's supposed to be hooked up to the grey. don't hold me to that though, do a search on it.

Ok heres how it goes, the black wire has to goto a good ground. It has to be metal to metal not metal to plastic or anything like that. The red wire goes to a 12 volt source and the purple wire goes to the white wire off the O2 sensor. If you follow this then it should work properly.

the O2 sensor is on the cat. And make sure you tap into the primary sensor not the secondary.

WRONG!! You need to hook it up to the 02 sensor that is in the header..NOT the one from the cat. There is four wires....2 whites, 1 black, and 1 grey. The purplr wire from the air/fuel gauge hooks up to one of the white wires. If you need I can post some pictures to show you. Disconnect your gague immediately!!! You might be damaging it by having it hooked up wrong.

APS is right the sensor is in the exhaust manifold. and the purple wire from the gauge taps into the solid white wire.
NOT THE WHITE WIRE WITH THE GRAY STRIPE.look close and you will see one has a gray stripe. hope everything turns out for you.

Actually I hooked it up to the black wire in the 02 Sensor located on the header, and my Air Fuel gauge works fine...

mine works fine too. if i were you i'd change it to the solid white one. this is the wire it's supposed to be hooked up to i don't know how yours is working but you could damage your gauge.

I used the header O2 sensor (PHO2S) which is the white line in the A(31P) ECM/PCM

the black/white line not the O2 line sensor
