A glasspack will not silence it, most likely make it louder. I had dual glasspacks on my '79 Monte Carlo and boy did it rumble.
This is a sound clip of a glasspack on a stock inline 6

Homer probably does not have a muffler and only the glass pack res. he probably has straight pipes from the headers to the glass pack res and straight pipes to the exhaust tips. A resonator resonates(hence the name) the waves in a camber that muffles it(quiets) the noise from the combustion camber. A glass pack is better because the material inside the res(glass) does not expand like a metal res will. you will hear the glass pack res cool off(it makes this dripping/pinging sound). If the material in the res does not expand, you will not create any back more back pressure than provided by the res. I hope this helps(i do not know a lot about cars(i know a lot more because of having a civic, but not because I took automotive classes), I just know a lot about physics and a little about thermodynamics.

no, what i'm saying is... any muffler place will put a regular resonator on your car, they have them in stock.

I used a glasspack on my previous car, a Prelude. I had increased the pipe size, took off the resonator, and used a free-flow muffler. It was horrendously loud, so the muffler shop guy recommended a glasspack to act as a resonator. It worked great and sounded good, but not too loud. The only time you could hear the glasspack was at high revs. It made a kind of "brrrratt" sound. If you don't like it, you can always use a generic resonator.
Here's a couple links for you:

right now i have my resonator taken out and replaced with a straight pipe out with an n1 muffler.... i was just wondering if i replace the straight pipe with a glass pack how would it sound???
is using a glass pack as a resonator the same as using the stock resonator.... sound wise???

A Glasspack should work fine as a resonator. It should quiet the note down and maintain a low end rubmble. Just make sure to get a free flowing pack. Cherry Bombs are about the worst on the market. Try and get one with smooth interior that will not affect exhaust flow. The types with the 3D cutouts will inhibit flow. Look through the center and see if the pipe is smooth with holes drilled (like the Borla straight throughs). That's what you want.
