Effects of changing from stock rim-tyres 185-65-15 to 205-50-16 ? Pls. help
Hi,
I'm a new member from Thailand, I'm riding a civic 2002 sedan vti automatic, which is probably equivalent to the EX version in the US, equiped with 1.7 vtec lev engine, 130 hp/ 96 kw. The stock tire is 185-65-15, and I've just recently changed it to 205-50-16. What would be the effect of doing so, would my top speed decrease and would my actual speed change ?
Regards,
Thaicivic

ahh.. thailand.. that's an awesome place! bangkok is a pretty cool city, although pretty hot and humid. anyway, i'm not quite sure what you're asking, but if you mean how does your speed reading change, it will read 1.6% fast according to the tire calculator (there's a link at the top of this site) since the overall diameter of the wheel/tire is slightly smaller. i don't know if it will have much effect on your top speed, but since the tires are a bit wider i guess your acceleration should improve a little.

Hi,
Thanks for your e-mail and pointing out the tire calculator. Well, -1.6 is not that bad, overall the steering and handling is much better especially in the corners. There are alot of civics and hondas in Thailand too, in terms of market share, it is only second to Toyota in the passenger cars division. just slightly.
