Just installed K&N drop-in filter
Just installed the K&N drop-in filter (part #33-2192). From what I observed after installing it, the car seems to pull a tad more throughout the powerband, smoother. However, it is hard to discern any gains since tonight's air was pretty dry and cool, so you're gonna get more pull anyway with this cold air in Toronto. One thing for sure is that the car seems more responsive and smooth as it revs, something I'm certain is a result of the higher air flow.
Also, there is no noticeable change in noise from stock.
Installation was a breeze, just unscrew the seven screws clamping the filter box and replace. If you have a strut bar, it may block the box and you'll need to remove that first like I did.
I ordered mine from a U.S. online retailer for $37 USD. Had it shipped to a friend in the U.S. since they wouldn't ship to Canada, and then forwarded it to me (he was mailing me other stuff).

Actually there is somet truth in that!!
Oh yeah.. DAMN.. it's pretty small!! I thought the stock was small, but K&N is even smaller..
Hey bud, you said that there's been a change in noise... what kind of noise? More hissing noise? Or quieter?
Edit: F-uck, I just read Honda Tuning mag.. they tested for RSX-S, 8 different intakes, including K&N drop in. It lost 0.1HP over stock. Eesh.

i guess its not only because its a k&n filter, its also that the filter is not dirty that make your car pull harder
Well, it's not even the money issue.. it's just logic.
How much better do you think K&N's filter is, compared to whoever might be Honda's supplier? I don't think Honda orders air filters from a garbage company. Especially with all the emission laws, they need to conjure up as much power as they can, without dirtying the air or using up more gasoline.
The days dropping in an airfilter and changin the spark plus for extra 10HP are over.. all the car makers are using premium parts already these days. The only way you can get extra power is when you sacrafice something--safety or durability. Like CAI--no doubt it works, but damn... it's not safe in the rain. Or performance exhaust--it works, but it's noisey as hell. Try going on a road trip with it.

its only safe if ur entire intake is SUBMERGED in water ..
but if u hit a puddle and water splashes on it.. it will start sucking it in. so dont think that just by getting the bypass ur safe
man.. if ur scared just get the drop in.

K&N PRODUCTS ON SALE AT CANADIAN TIRE!
I see it in the flyer... November 2 - November 8, 2002
20% off the air filters. Part number is 33-2192 ... I'd say none of the stores have it in stock... Price I was told is $72...
If you pay cash, you'd also get some Cdn Tire dollars
Now klam has rumoured about some sort of $20 surcharge for bringing in a non-stock item... The guy over the counter didn't mention anything about that, so I dunno....
NOS is also 15% off at Cdn Tire now
