DIY short shifter...
I tryed searching but came up with no results. How bad is it hack saw off your shifter to make yourself a short shifter. I dont really know how much it will help. Maybe if I got a shift adapter also. I am all about DIY stuff because I am one broke ****!!!
obviosuly cutting the shifter is going to lower the height of the shifter, but i am not sure if it actually would reduce the throws.....hummm, not sure

If you just cut the bar for the shifter, then no. If you create a different point of attachment then yes. You can weld a piece to your stock shifter that mimics the role of a short shifter.

Anyway, if you want to DIY your shifter then get a shift **** like Razo and a threading tool. Cut the shifter and re-thread it. Then just screw the Razo **** on. I mention Razo because the stock shift **** won't fit. It won't fit because the hole in the stock shift **** will be too small for the new diameter of the shifter.

I think i understand what you guys are saying, but it seems you are doing is shortening the amount you have to move your hand, not the gear points (like with a traditional short shifter). I may be understanding this wrong, but i understand what you are saying as just shortening the amout you have to move your hand, not changing actual shifter. Maybe someone can clear that up.

My basic goal is to shorten the throw. Or to put it bluntly not move my hand so much between gears. Also what was LikeWEEEEEE talking about sucking itself into gear. Did he mean with the DIY mod or an aftermarket SS kit.

hey i got the solo short shift adapter and I cut my shifter.....
the solo reduced throw and the cutting off it just helpt hand movement and hight.. all you gotta do is cut the shifter REAL low with a dremel.. then get someone to weld the little piece of threading that is located on the top the the shifter itself and weld it back on.. thus still allowing you to use the stock **** but have it MADDD LOW... pics COMMIN SOON
EDIT: don cut too low or the plastic ring on the shift boot will not sit right.... it will be pushin against the BEND of the shifter downlow.

You don't NEED anything. Get the Revo Technica SS. It reduces shifter height and it relocates the cable attachment pivot point. Both of which reduce the throw. I have it and it's the bomb!
Nah Grey. you are right that is all u really need... BUT when I bought my civic (nov1,2000) there werent any shift kits ... ALL i found was the solo adapter.. and i had to IMPROVISE so i cut it too.
sucked for me i guess cause now u can buy the WHOLE shifting platform.

Not too hard. The toughest part was pulling up on the center console piece around the e-brake to get it off. That piece is hard to pull up. Besides that you just follow the directions. Well, wait. There's one more thing that's hard to do. There's this one plastic thing on the shifter that you have to twist off. I broke mine. I had to superglue it back on.
Get them off of Ebay. That's where I got mine. They sell for as little as $75 now. I got mine for $96 shipped.
