i just browsed the members rides and i noticed mostly everyone with 17s has a 205-40 series tires.
why does everyone have this combo? isnt the ride a bit harsh?
wouldnt it be better to have at least a 205-45 combo?

for some reason most sellers offer 205-40 in their packages. the 215-45 are a little more $.

Amen...I agree! I went with a thicker tire, even though it looks nasty, because it will ride the bumps a bit better and not so prone to getting my rims bent...although, the possibility is still there....I'll sacrifice having a smooth ride for having an unbent rim...

i would think its cause those are more popular tire sizes for 17s. so most retailers probably offer that as their package unless if requested otherwise. i know with 18s 215-35-18 is the most popular and thats what my retailer recommened. i however went with 215-40-18. yes smaller tires are going to ride harsh but they look better and for some people and thats worth it.

tirerack.com's recommendation for 18's is the 215/40. Their recommendation for 17s is 205/45.

yeah i got 205/40 cause that was the package price. I wish i would have gone with the 45s cause like the guys above me said, roads in pa suck. the ride isnt bad at all though, but 45s woulda been better.

I wrote to Discount Tire, and the rep recommended 205/45r17 or 215/40r17.

Almost all packages come with 205/40. I upgraded to 215/45 and have Neuspeed sports springs and have no rubbing. It's not even close to rubbing.
