I have noticed that my EX rides like it is about 1/4" off the front bumpstops. The Neuspeed instructions said NOT to cut the front bump stops, only the rear. I have read that other brands instruct you to cut the front. Has anyone cut the front bumpstops with Neuspeed springs?

I am afraid to cut them, for fear that it may cause the car to sit even lower than it is! I have been thinking about cutting 1/2"-1" (probably 3/4") off the front, but would like to hear everyones suggestions.

cutting the bumpstop isnt going to cause your car to sit any lower... you might rub however if you hit a dip/bump too hard tho.

Well I showed my friends that installed my springs the instructions too, and they were like well you just gotta cut it or something... So they gut the top half of it off, I'd say it was an inch... My shocks are still holding awesome and I hit hard bumps sometimes too (no other choice b/c it covers the whole road). The only thing bad that happens is that my cd player goes out for about 2 seconds after a hard one... Cut, dont cut, its whatever...[IMG]i/expressions/beer_yum.gif[/IMG]

I had forgotten about rubbing. But I am not too worried about that because some other lowering kits offer as much as 3/4" more drop than my Neuspeed Sports (1-3/4" front drop with Sports) and the Neuspeed Race springs offer 1/4" more drop than the Sports.

I have 17" wheels, with 205-40-17 tires. [IMG]i/expressions/laugh2.gif[/IMG]

I might cut about 1/2" off the front bump stops so that I don't feel as many bumps in the road, I know that I can't smooth all the bumps, hopefully just the smaller ones.

cutting it isnt going to help. how did you even get the "about 1/4 inches off the front bumpstops" figure? not sure if it is true but i havnt bottomed out yet. but it doesn hurt to trim them a lil bit so why not...

The 1/4" is an estimate, it feels like it is that close. The ride is ok, but on very small bumps I can feel contact with the bump stops and the front bounces at times which is reminiscent of the lowrider truck days, though not as bad. The suspension doesn't have much travel at all. I am trying to regain a bit of travel that was lost with the drop.

The rear rides like a charm, I just want to get a better ride from the front.

i had that same problem with my goldlines, the front of the car lowed almost 2 inches and with 2 people in the car, the car would actually ride on the bump stops....i ended up cutting about an inch off and used tube clasps to pull the dustboot together so it would still do its job, it drove a lot nicer, but i still bought a prokit, the goldlines are still too rough for me.

Did your tires rub your fenders when hitting bumps after you trimmed the bump stops? If so, what is your wheel/tire size? If I decide to cut my bump stops, I may do it this weekend (9/28-9/30/2002) or next weekend. After what you have said, I may remove 3/4". If it causes problems with the tires rubbing, I will just replace the bump stops altogether with new ones and deal with the stiff ride.

I would cut an inch off the front stops. It won't cause the car to drop anymore and it will give ya some more travel.

Bump stops have been cut.

I removed one (1) ring from each of teh front bump stops, there are two rings per bump stop. The rings look like miniatrue doughnuts and are on the upper section of the dust cover. I removed the upper most doughnut from each of the front bump stops, this was about 1/2" total per side (each doughnut is about 1/2" thick).

The ride over small bumps improved, as did the ride with three people in the car. The impact of larger bumps is about the same, remember that I only gained 1/2" of travel.

I didn't remove more of the bump stop because I felt that removing more would hinder the bump stops purpose.

All that being said, I am happy with the outcome. I have yet to see if the handling around turns will improve. Before, bumps encountered in a turn caused unwanted bouncing and nervous handling.
