Manual Transmission Issue

hey guys, anyone of you have the same problem?? this happened a couple times already...

1. when I shift from 1st to 2nd, the shift felt like popping out of 1st, and when I actual shift into 2nd, the gear grinds...
2. I usually have to shift twice to get the shift into reverse gear when backing in (and I do stop and press the clutch fully)

should I be concerned and call up Honda about these issues?

everybody has that reverse issue...
it doesn't happen all the time... but it happens some of the time... but rarely...

it's once in a blue moon when 1st feels like it's gonna pop out... very rare (but it's my fault that i didn't put it in first properly)

but i've never heard grinding when shifting to second...

yah it happens to almost everyone. First and reverse does it. But I agree, I've never heard of grinding on 2nd.

i've noticed that you wont grind into reverse when you hold both clutch and the brakes at the same time, and while doing that.. i always get into reverse without any trouble
on occassion, i would put into reverse on just holding clutch.. but it might feel like its grinding 'cause the car is rolling a lil'.

I guess it's a relief that I am not the only one?? but I've read on the RSX forums that they have the same problem with the 1st gear "popping"... I guess the same goes for all honda manual trannys... hmmm

I wonder if these problems occurs on other brands?? ie VW or BMW? ha ha...

yeah the grinding when in 2nd is actually a manufactural defect, I just had mine fixed. Honda can run your VIN and see if you fall in that category. Good luck

That grind/popping out of 2nd gear is due to a bushing around the shifter cable. It is under recall. Mine is messed up too, and I have been waiting since june for them to get the part in because it is on backorder! They tried once to put it in but they ripped it! Idiots!

Alright, laugh all you want guys but my question is what do you guys mean by "grinding" the gears. I'm new to driving stick so bare with me. I notice that some of my shifts feel kind of rough, is that grinding the gears?

that "rough" feeling between gears is not grinding....... grinding gears is basically letting off the clutch before u properly place the shifter to the selected gear thus "grinding" (hope u know wut grinding means) the gears........ u will hear the most unbearable sound of sccccccccccccrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech hhhhhhhhhhhhh........ hahahaha........... and u will also feel it while u hold the shift ****...... ok ok..... heres another post by andoy that does not make any sense......

trust me, you'll know what grinding is once you hear it... you step on the gas and the car doesn't go anywhere, but makes the nastiest noise ever... almost sound like you just kill your tranny and need to replace a new one...

hey guys...i realize this post is old, but the trick to get it into reverse is to put it into third, THEN reverse.

I was annoyed at the reverse problem, and my friend told me about the third 'trick'. works like a charm!

that's a good trick man.. but usually all I need to do is take it out and try again and it usually works the 2nd time around.
and yes, this is an old thread...
And yes, Andoy... once again, you don't know what you're talking about. j/k
