Which way to face sub?

I have searched but came up with nothing. Would it be better to face the woofer of the sub towards the cabin so it fires in that direction, or away at the end of the trunk? I am totally clueless as to which is better and why? can somebody helo me out? thanx in advance

Litespeed is an unknown quantity at this point
You want to face it towards the back of the car, not into the cabin.

Try standing next to your car with the volume turned up... You'll hear the bass, right? Now stand far away... like 60 feet away, even further if you'd like... you'll can probably hear the bass more farther away then you could standing right next to it.

Bass travels, the frequency it creates takes time to develop over distance. When you fire it to the back of the car, it bounces off the back and travels back forward into the car which allows it more distance to develop.

Try it both ways though. You should find that it's louder when aiming away from the cabin than into the cabin.

its all install dependant. your best SQ should come from facing forward. this is assuming you have no rear wave interactions with the cone itself. my own tests in my car ive always found forward firing sounded terrible. thats cause i just stuck the box there and that was it. if you take your time to seperate the trunk from the cabin, forward firing will sound much better than rear. also prevents canncellations youll see in the website linked below.

for max volume, youll want to rearface, and plane load the woofers, it works to load them off the quarter panels or the trunk lid, even the wheel wells work decently well. the reason is outline again in teh website.

My bro used to install stereos and do SPL contests so I trust his opinion on this. He explained it to me in this way - You have a home theatre in your living room, putting the sub(s) in the trunk facing the rear with the seat not folded down is like putting the sub for your theatre in your bedroom with the door closed. You wouldn't put the speakers in your door in backwards, would you? Thats just the logic I use. Even if its not mechanically correct, it makes sense.
