does height matter or just spring stiffness?

From what i understand, car are lowered to improve handling, but isn't that primarily from the stiffer springs, not the 1" drop in center of gravity? Could one raise their car with aftermarket springs, (or even CR-V parts) and increase handling?

Basically, read my title.

Both height and stiffness matter. A lower car will have a lower center of gravity and produce less body roll in turns. Stiffer springs will make your car ride harsher but will give it more responsive handling. Most lowering springs and coilovers are a lot stiffer than stock springs.

they usually are alot stiffer than stock, in older model hondas replacement springs are progressive while the OEM were not. Is this correct? i Had an 1992 accord and all the springs were exact same distace apart, so it wasnt a progressive spring, stifness i love, i love going over bumps and feeling my car stick like glue, im sorry but thats worht the money!

so i could jack up my civic like a wrangler renegade, but use stiff springs and still handle better than stock (not to mention be able to drive over a speedbump w/out scraping)?

to hold the same weight of the car with lowerin spring, the spring must be stiffer to hold the weight, therefore it gives a bouncy ride, springs on 4 wheelers have different rates as well but there intention r totally not the same(from a mechanical stand point)they cant turn corner but they can absorb all the rough bumps to keep the truck from turnin over,u can have one orr the other but not both.

Not quite - the high center of gravity would probably make it hazardous to take turns at high speeds.

ya, these guys are right.. both of it matters. they basically go hand in hand tho. raised cars usually tend to have a softer suspension. this is done for a reason, using stiffer springs on a raised car would defeat the purpose. why do you ask anyways? you want to raise your car?

I think he wants to make the world's first Honda Civic monster truck!!

Haha...

Ya, no matter how stiff your springs are, if your car is lifted it will sway because spring strength is vertical and not horizontal.

Lower center of gravity helps keeping the car close to the ground while the stiffer springs control the body roll by avoiding bottom-outs.

Hmmm... Hope I expressed these ideas the right way........ Looks like babbling.

a civic monster truck would be awesome but really i'd love to be able to see further ahead in traffic, and go over a curb. Probably nothing i'd ever do, but i was just wondering about it.

Just jack up a CRV chasis and put a Civid body on it, and there you have your monster Civic.

BTW: Lowering also improves your cars aerodynamics by reducing ground clearance. A lip kit adds to this lowering effect. Your car will go through the air better if it is lowered.
