Car buying assistance...
My uncle is in the market for a new used car, and has narrowed it down to two options...any advice on which one to take? He'd be using it as a daily commuter, so obviously no mods to it or whatever...back and forth in heavy traffic, it's going to be an auto, and a 4-door. Just an all around practical car. He just had an Accord for a number of years and it's hovering close to the 200K mark
Any suggestions? These are the options:
1) 1998 Honda Civic LX, 4-door, white, 45K miles, $10,500.00
2) 1999 Honda Accord LX, 4-door, tan, 65K miles, $10,995.00
I don't think the Accord is the V6 either, otherwise the choice would be easy...now they are both hovering around his max price range...but would it be worth it to wait for the 2k3's to come out and wait for the price drop or what? Thanks all for your help!

Well, it depends upon the comfort of your uncle.....he is a rather large individual..then the 1998 civic is way to small..I can barely fit in it..I'm 5-11, 225 lbs.....but the accord..I've had one of those as well...and, It fit me much more comfortably......so just something to consider..peace!

lol, he's about my size, 5' 7" or somwhere near there...he's stocky in build so that's something to consider...but I don't feel cramped at all in my 97...
Getting a Civic would certainly be a change of pace considering that he just had an Accord

I'd have to say the Accord. As was mentioned, it is a bigger car and will offer more space. I'm not sure how much the price will drop on it once the 2003s come out as it is a 1999, so it might be better to just try and bargain the price a little.

Yeah, I'de have to agree. If indeed you can get an Accord for that much more. The Accord will come with more options standard. Just don't get the first model year of a new generation. Get the last model year of a particular generation. All of the bugs will be worked out. I regret purchasing the 2001 Civic. I would have liked the 2002 with some of the bugs worked out.
I would say the Accord!
there's a couple of other factors that you have to look at.
for example:
if the Accord look like it's been to hell and back and the Civic is mint condition.
than I would go Civic.
but if they are in relativley similar condition..... Accord is the only choice.
Reasons:
It is a lot more roomy than the civic.
It has a bigger engine, but still gets good gas millage
It has VTEC!
It is also a year newer, so the resale value will be higher when he gets rid of it.
well I hope this helps.
wish your uncle good luck from me.

he will probably feel like he took a step down if he gets the civic. I don't think that size is an issue in the civic exept for in the height department. I'm 5'9 and I feel cramped in a big way. Anyhow, the accord rides better, is more comfortable, is quieter, will most likely retain its value better than the civic, and will be more fitting of his age. I would definately do the accord.

I agree, take the Accord as long as it isn't beat to ish....
Only thing to keep in mind is that he should have a mechanic go through both cars and try and get any maintenance records. Don't just buy the Accord because it is an Accord. Remember too, at 65K the Accord is just about at full service time. The Civic has another few years before it...........
