Audio problems? Tv, not car stereo! help!

Ok.. i just got a new Sony Tv... before this tv, i had some pos which didn't have audio-in inputs...

I go to set up my new tv.... I want to be able to have sorround sound and the tv audio to work at the same time while I'm watching a DVD...

so, I go from Audio OUT on my dvd player to my Audio IN(under the video heading) on my receiver... Great, sorround sound works!

Now, I go from Audio OUT on my receiver to my tv's Audio IN... No sound on my TV...

but if I go from DVD Audio OUT to my TV's Audio IN.... I get sound...

am I doing something wrong? Is audio OUT on my receiver meant to be used as something else?

Ahhh....do they sell splitters for rca-wires?? :x

They sell splitters...also though your TV can only accept 1 input signal at a time..it have some switcher on the back of the TV of a feature you can get to with the remote. My JVC is like that..if I have my DVD player on I get no sound from my ps/2 but when I turn the DVD player off I get sound. How many audio ins does your DVD player have?..maybe you can wire everything through the DVD player?

My dvd player only has two. It has the digital audio out, which neither my TV nor Receiver can handle.... and then mixed audio out which is the common rca type..

That's too bad your receiver dosn't accept digital in. That's how I have mine set up so I can watch DVDs w/ or w/o the surround.
In case anyone's interested...
My current setup:
DVD RCA Audio Out -> TV Audio In
DVD Composite Video Out -> TV Video In

DVD 5.1 Digital Audio Out -> Receiver 5.1 Digital Audio In
DVD Component Video Out -> TV Component Video In

I think your receiver has to be on for the sound to pass thru to the TV w/o having the surround on. eh, that's confusing. umm, try turning the volume all the way down on the receiver and see if there is still sound coming from the TV. Kind of defeats the purpose of just using the TV for sound if you need the revceiver on.

An alternative to the splitters would be use the Audio Out on your TV (if so equipped). Then all you have to do is run audio to the TV first.
Like so: DVD Audio Out -> TV Audio In -> TV Audio Out -> Receiver Audio In

If your TV dosn't have Audio out, I think the RCA splitters are your best bet.

No audio out on the tv...

I'm assuming my best bet is to go with the splitters..... I'm also assuming radio shack will carry these for an amount they're not truely worth? lol

What TV doesn't have an audio output?...looks like you'll have to wire everything through the receiver..and only have one Audio in going to the TV...
