Roof scoop on 2k1
I just ordered a roof scoop like on brians eclipse in f&f and i was wondering if i need to have any outlets drilled in the back? If air is going it and not going out im scared that it might want to rip off of my roof. Does anyone have one of these or know anyone that has a roof scoop? Thanks

i dont know of anyone that has a roof scoop, but this just seems like common sense to me:
well, if it is a dummy scoop, that is, one without any actual opening in the front than i think you'd have problems without having some sort of vent to let that air out. but, if it isnt, then you'd either have to cut a whole in your roof and have a nice fan effect (im j/k btw) or somehow vent that air out, either through the scoop or making a channel in the roof or whatever.

No its an actual fiberglass scoop it lets air in but i dont see any way of it letting it out lol which is why im concerned. I dont want my guy to put it on and charge me 200 bucks for the bondo and poly adhesives for it to fly off when i spray or some crazy shiznizle like that... I could always cut a small slit in the back or drill 2 1/4 inch holes? I dont know any info would help here!

yeah how the hell am i suppose to descibe it so everyone knows what im talking about jack@$$. I just looked at ur ride and its nothing. How many car shows have you won? Yeah thats what I thought. Look at pictures of my car when its done next week then look at urs and u will b-e humbled with ur shaved emblems really quick. Your comentary isent wanted on this thread so go clear ur headlights.
It will definitely be stressed by the rushin air the faster you go if it doesn't have an outlet (since it's serving no mechanical purpose). As for what to do, the only thing i could think of would be to cut into the roof and let the air into the car itself or pray that the adhesive's tensile strength is pretty damn strong. Personally I wouldn't do it, it just doesn't flow with the lines well and is a hassle mechanically.

Thanks NB i think i will cut a small slit along the end of it to let the air out. Its going to be put on with poly panal adeasive and smoothed out with bondo so i know it wont come off just worried about the fiberglass possibly cracking.
Pesonally what I would do in case I got a roof scoop is cut out the piece of roof where it goes in and fabricate (from some sort of AC vents and put over the opening, that way you can sort of control the air flow, BTW this mod will increase drag on your car and IMO is not worth the money or the show points, because while it will not severly slow down the civic because its already slow as ***** it will be kind of apian in the ***, all this of course is from the simulation i ran in my head of what it would be like if i put one on. THat is just my .02 but try the vent idea, and if you decide not to put it on im sure you could always sell it to one of the Impreza boys at i-Club.com.

but your right the roof scoop would be uniqe , but the hood scoop looks BAD ****!!!!!!
hey dave im kind of sick of your stupid comments, this is just my opinion, don;t take it the wrong way, sometimes i read your posts and they seem moderately intelligent and then at other times you just seem like a huge idiot who just goes along with the crowd and makes fun of people to get a boost of confidence. Maybe you should mature and grow up and then come back and start posting. He never asked for your opinion on it, he merely asked for any suggestions on how to deal with the intallation. ANd I would love to know your theory on how a hood scoop on a civic is even moderately functional.

ok thats great dave i posted this thread so i could gain information and possibly get peoples opinions not to get into a flame war. What you consider rice doent really matter to me, so go have fun critizing (sp?) other peoples cars instead of tuning urs.
I think i am going to put on the scoop its my car and i want it on so i will. I will post pics of my car next week when its all done and on.

I think you'll need a slit in the back the only problem will be at high speeds it will probably make a whining sound but you could tune it like a port in a box till you get a nice sounding whine. Just kidding but cant wait to see it finished BTW feel free to criticize my car

Hey, who the hell are you guys talking to? Did someone delete their posts? I hate this feature!!!
PseudoChrist: You don't need to cut any slits. Imagine the air inside there acting as a solid object. With the front of the roof scoop clogged up with a solid object, the air just flows around it. it compresses the air slightly, but it basically just flows around this opening. Same reason why a truck with a truck bed closed up is more aerodynamic than with it open. It's because the air in the truck bed is at rest and acts like a solid object for the moving air to skip over. It's more aerodynamic 'cause instead of a big flat wall (with the bed open), there's a step transition (with the bed closed). Seriously though, don't cut any slits. The force on that part will be very small. Cutting slits may actually make the force greater 'cause the air will have to hit the walls of the roof scoop inside and will have to bend down to get out.
