Light for a 17" would be in the 12-15lb range. Although, 17lbs isn't all that bad. Plenty of members have rims that weigh much more than that. Imo, you really want a rim/tire combo that is light as possible. However, to get a really light combo, you may sacrifice handling. Anyhow, I'd say anything that weighs the same or less than the stock setup is good.
Ok I just looked it up but couldn't find my exact answer. What is our stock wheel weight? The chart I was linked to from this site had a civic EX 92+, which had 14's and they said 18lbs. Well I have an EX, I want a pair of 17's close to the stock weight, is that possible?

I have a fairly decent scale at home. I weighed my 15" steel rim with the cap and got 21lbs. That was weighing myself and then getting back on the scale with the rim and cap. I am not saying that I have the most accurate scale in the world but it should weigh around +/- 21lbs.

"...the lighter u get the worse the selection..." Thats not necessarily true. The Toxxins are lite and they look pretty good. The handling is not that bad either.
Don't you guys think the Toxxins look pretty good for a lighter rim?

Ummm....toxxins weight 18.6lbs in 17". You would be several pounds over the weight of the stock setup. Not good..
I think people need to remember that when you increase your rim/tire weight over stock, you are loosing acceleration performance. Some members have posted reductions in 1/4 mile times of .5 secs when they took their bling, bling, wheels off and put the stock steelies back on. Anyhow, it all depends on what you want.

17 lbs is medium range on weight. Racing wheels are usually under 12 lbs. For street or street/strip 12 to 15. The move from 17 lbs down get expensive. So, it depends on what your trying to accomplish vs. the money involved. Stock steelie weighs 24 lbs.

Well, there is more to it than just weight. It's not just the weight in itself, but also where the weight is around the wheel. IE, Like is all the weight on the outside of the rim, on the inside near the hub, or evenly distributed. Plus, a small increase or decrease in overall tire diameter will affect acceleration as well. In order to get 17s and stay below the stock weight, you would have to go forged and then you are talking around 300 per rim. 16s would be the best of both worlds on the street imo. 17s are basically going more to the looks side and 15s are going more to the acceleration side. 16s you can get pretty light and still get the same handling as the 17s would provide. Just get a 16x7 or 16x7.5 rim.
I have 15s subs and my combo weighs 31lbs per wheel/tire. If you go above 40lbs per wheel/tire, then you are basically taking away some if not all of any gain you have received from your performance parts.
Light weight wheel/tire combo is probably the best mod that you can do to improve the acceleration on our cars right now. Also, since you are reducing your sprung weight, your suspension will work better and have a much easier time keeping the wheels planted to the road.
Oh, one last thing to remember, even if you get light weight 17" rims, you are still putting a big heavy 17" tire on it. All in all, if you really don't care too much, just get the rims that you like and put them on. I know my little 15" subs improved my acceleration big time, but I gotta say, they look like sheite.

17's prety much slow ya down, but if you get some light ones probably wont notice it, but if you go with lite wheels lke superleggera 15inchers about 11lbs with some light tires it will help a little on acceleration and handling. Remember tires are even more important as far as weight goes cause they are the furthest from the center of the rotating inertia. The lightest tires will cost more, but if u want to get every ounce of performance then get light 15 inchers or even 14's, but if you want overall better handling and looks then go for the 17's
Thanks big time for the info guys. I want looks over performance, I mean I don't race. On the other hand though I don't to make things too much worse on the performance side. 16's sound good for that purpose, but damm 17's look so much nicer, I guess I got some thinking to do. Damm thinking hurts my brain.

When I was shopping for rims, my rule was to stay under 20 lbs so they wouldn't be too porky. Plus I didn't have the money for Racing Harts. What did I go with? 17" Konig Tantrums - 19.2 lbs. Still a few pounds over stock, but come on, our cars are slow anyway [IMG]i/expressions/laugh2.gif[/IMG]
