Wellll.....this is a long thing....
Currently AEM and Brembo have brake repalcement parts out....
The AEM big brake kit oncreases rotor size and in addition to cross drilled and slotted rotors you get larger surface area to disipate heat better in ahrsh conditions....also a little better brake torque. but you NEED to have 17" wheels at least to be able to put these to use..
Also AEM has their brake pads out which are light colored and better then stock. These alone will improve brake performance overall.
Brembo has rotors that are cross drilled and slotted. These are OEM size. The benefit to these is the fact that they are cross drilled and slotted to prevent gas build up and disipate heat better then stock. Also you can remain on stock steelies.
brembo also has brake pads (I recently found out) I dunno how well they work. but has to be better then OEM pads.
E-mail me if you have any other questions.

I have OEM sized dimple-drilled/slotted Brembo's..Oh yeah, they're zinc-coated also......Personally I wouldn't want to overdue my front brakes with a Expensive Big-brake kit($500) without also upgrading my rear brakes(disc conversion)........If your not upgrading your back,, companys say the most Cost-effective means to getting significant braking improvemnt is to combine upgraded, one-piece, stock-diameter rotors with high-performance brake pads mounted in the stock calipers....<---This is straight out of SuperStreet July 2002(Brake section).........I spent $100 for rotors from RACECONCEPTS and $50 for AEM brakes from TORNACTIVE....Total $150......AEM's kit for $500 doesn't come with pads & still uses the stock calipers(What R U really getting for that kind of money??)........For my $150, I get quicker stops, less pedal effort to stop, clean rims, and a FAT pocket.......Check them out......

Sorry for the bad pics,,,,I just went out and took them for this thread.....

also in reality the only thing that will really and trully affect the clamping performance of your brakes is a new set of calipers, OEM civic calipers have one Piston (pot) the presses on the pad to grip the disc and stop the car, aftermarket performance calipers have 2, 4, or even 6 pot thats disperse the brake pressur emore evenly over a larger surface (the calipers and pads are physically larger) and really give your discs a good clamping to. Also drum brakes have a really good propensity to grip and stop, but since they are enclosed they heat up faster and do not work as well, but for everyday use theyre plenty to keep our cars planted.
Teq- man enkei shoguns at one point I was going to buy those bad boys heheh, but I thought theyd look kinda strange on the civ so I got my MR12s, I kinda dont like directional wheels.
man 2400 dollars for a front brembo 13 inch rotor conversion with 4 pot calipers race rotors
Brembo is so worth it.
Brembo is so worth it.
my buddys got teh brembo brakes on his 6th gen si, or had...totalled in an accident in the winter due to an idiot who lost control and spun out on the highway.....LEt me just say WOW, you apply these suckas and the car just stops...it's like runnin into a wall....unbelievable performance!

Yup, and I mean really and truly dont upgrade your brakes unless you knwo what youre doing because you have to have a good idea of how a car responds to every type of braking pressure OEM brakes are pretty fool proof because theyre not that sensitive or brake that fast, but if you dont know how to use performance brakes please dont get them , I've known more than a few people who went with a brake upgrade and totalled their car.
Got to really try the brakes in a real life situation.....We were driving in the fast lane on the freeway,,,,,,I was in the passenger seat and my wife was driving and trying to talk to me at the same time......The guy in front of us notices he is about to miss his exit(just 200ft ahead) ..Even though there was no possible way to get over in time, he of course tries......He slams on his brakes,, I YELLL,,,,WE SLAM ON OURS & Lay on the HORN...He spead up, again and gave us the finger when we passed him up, like it was our fault....What the HELLL was this guy thinking?????? He scared the $hit out of me and about 20 other cars around him......I know the stock brakes would not have held up in this situation.....because my wifes delayed reactions because she has the turn her head when she talks sindrome.........Just wanted to let you guys know........Again best $150 I've spent,,,,and not for show, 4 Safety.......
