I Hate My Cleared + Black Headlamps
after seeing a few members with the black-housing headlamps, i decided to try it too. i had to redo my headlights anyway, since they were leaking from when i cleared them, so i figured i'd paint em as long as i had them apart.
guess what? they turned out perfect! it was a bit of a pain... i tried masking off a few areas, and when i pulled up the tape, the chrome chipped off in a few places. i ended up sanding the chrome stuff off, and spraying the whole trim piece black. after it dried, i used some silver touch-up pen to color the round reflectors where the bulbs plug in. they looked so damn cool! after i got them sealed back up, siliconed, and dried again, i wrapped the edges with electrical tape so it looks pretty damn professional and the grand result...
i hate them! what went wrong? well...
i have a sedan. sedans have a chrome strip above the grille. a black car with black headlights make that chrome strip stand out like a sore thumb... i think its kinda fugly. i could replace it, but since there's already other chrome accents on the car, i'd rather leave it (door handles, trunk strip, gauge rings, trim around the windows (coming soon!)... so the verdict is that the black lights look sweet on the coupe, silly on the sedan. at least on mine
so anyway... i'm gonna take them apart yet again! question is... should i spray them with a chrome paint, to make them look like the stock lights? or just a plain silver paint, which would give it a softer look? or gunmetal, kind of in-between? stay tuned, i might photoshop this one once i get back home...

you can try paiting it yourself or you can go to H&A and get a new one, they come painted....Personally, i wouldn't paint it myself, cuz it would end up lookin shittty, cuz you can't do a whole helluva lot with spray paint from the auto store...just my $.02
gunmetal headlights - go for it!
i didn't have that problem with the chrome.. might've been because I used really weak adhesive masking tape?
how about a pic of the "silly" headlights? just for future reference

what is the price for that body colored strip?? i agree w/ bhayes82, the crome strip kinda kills the whole black theme.
and has anyone seen the price for that carbon fiber one?? does it come with the grill, or can you buy it separately??
