Putting Herculiner in trunk, Good idea?
i took out the trunk carpet and flimsy carboard out o my car. The car's trunk looks ugly now and i thought instead of put it back on i could use a littler herculiner, which is meant for trunk beds in it. It can serve as two functions. It can make it look more pleasing to the eye and is sound absorbing, so it can be used for sub clarity.
if you got teh desire and the money, go for it....just a couple things tho:
the sides, before you hit teh wheel well, there are two gaps. it is not linear, like a truck bed. what do you plan to do about that? just leave it and have them spray over it, leaving that gap? i dunno....
what abou thte floor? cant really spray that, you have that cover for the spare tire, plan to spray the sides and leave the floor carpeted?
do you plan to keep the plastic piece that covers around the trunk latch? or leave it off?
where the interior side panels clip around and enter the trunk, are you gonna remove those two panels before putting the coating on, then just have them end like they normally do in the trunk?
on the left side of yoru trunk, there is a black plastic piece that vents out, check it out...what do you plan to do about that? just leave it?
and your break lights! thats kind of ugly without the carpeting covering that, and you cant really spray that...what do you plan to do about that section?
and finally, what about the rear deck? gonna spray the underside of that, or leave it metal, and the side matching up to teh rear deck, how far up are you going to spray the sides?
an intersting idea, tho!
you caught me at an intersting time with that idea, im doing the same thing you are, exept its DIY fiberglass instead of that truck bed coating if you can figure out answers to all those questions, i think you have an interesting and unique idea! definitely worth sitting down and thinking about it!

whatever you do, don't use that herculiner crap that you roll in yourself, get it sprayed in by line x or something. The stuff you do your self is good for looks, but it doesn't hold up to any type of abuse at all. I put it in the bed of my winter truck and it scratches with my fingernails.

well my first intention was to use a roll on herculiner kit, not a spray. Also to clarify, my spare tire is out of the car. With the roll on application i think it will cover pretty good since herculiner is thick it can cover any little gaps and get into little areas.
I am rethinking cuz someone said it is not good quality stuff.
PS i was thinking about taking all carpet out of the trunk, taking out spare, and then rolling the herculiner on

the roll on stuff would smooth out those gaps between the wheel well and the outerskin of your car that is exposed between that and the brake lights. you know what im talking about. also it would cover that vent up nicely rather than spray over it.
can you do a combo? use the roll on to cover wide gaps (or you could use fiberglass) then get the spray coating over everything once there is something for it to cover?
that would make yoru trunk smooth and seamless, for sure....at least most of it.....
