How to tell if an engine is lugging!

Ok. I know that lugging an engine is not good. But how do i know if the latter is lugging? If i feel a vibration in the steering wheel, is the engine lugging? Another thing, when i'm going at 25 mph in 4th gear on flat pavement i don't feel any vibration on the steering wheel. I need some tips to be able to identify when the engine is lugging!

Thanks

what I think is he trying to tell us is that he should be in a higher gear and stop over working the engine more than it should be. That or he has burned out his clutch already. If you work in a shop, you get shnit like this all the time. Can you tell me what is wrong with my car and fix it for me???

I run in 4th or 5th gear at 25... to save gas... no, its not hard on your car... i am serious. Just dont floor it and expect it to be able to accel...

By lugging, do you mean what I just said, or do you mean Misfiring, stalling out, or bogging down when you press the accelerator?

and yes, for the 2nd time, you are not hurting your car going 25mph in 4th gear.

there's just something wrong with the picture of going 25 and being in 4th, it just doesnt seem right. If u look in the manual it says the optimal shifting points to conserve gas,

0-15-1st
16-27-2nd
28-39-3rd
40-52-4th
5th

they're different for crusing but certainly not by 15mph more like 6mph, so i doubt doing 25 in 4th will not cause harm to ure engine

If you feel the engine knock or hear pinging...downshift. That's when you are hurting your engine. Our cars do NOT have knock sensors, so it's up to us to prevent over load on the engine. However, I have yet to feel knock or hear ping from heavy load on the engine.

What exactly is "engine knocking"? Is that when it feels like your car is stuttering forward as you accelerate?

knocking and lugging are two different things....

and it won't hurt cruising along in 4th at 25.... again just don't expect any acceleration power

knocking is a sound the engine makes under load, it can accompany a shudder, but it is a very distinct sound. and yes, we do have knock sensors. shall I scan the manual for you?

We do? I don't remember seeing that in the manual. So how exactly does this sensor of ours work?
