93 ex is still overheating after head gasket
I bought my 93 ex coupe months ago and it’s been a nonstop headache. Recently had the head gasket replaced by a mechanic because I was too exhausted to do anything else on this car and when I realized the head gasket was blown I was crushed. He also had to replace the water pump and thermostat. When I went to pick up the car he told me that everything was working radiator fan and all but the gauge was still acting up.
Before bringing it in I replaced the sending unit and had to change out the gauge for a new one. Tried rewiring it again and soldering a new wire in. Seemed like it was working fine. Driving it around it would get to operating temp on the gauge. After a couple of minutes driving I noticed when I brake or stop it seemed like the gauge would go about 3/4 of the way up sometimes closer to red. When I would start driving again it would return to operating temp. Yesterday I had the car running with the rad cap off to make sure the lines didn’t have any air in them. Temp gauge was sitting good for about 15 minutes then started going to about the 3/4 mark again. Fans never kicked on while it was sitting running.
As of today I’ve replaced both radiator hoses, the cap, the temp sender 3 different times, the thermostat twice, the temp/fuel gauge, and had the head gasket and water pump changed by a mechanic. The head was machined as well. Tested fan relay, switch, and jumped the fan wire connector to make sure it turned on. I can’t tell if there’s something wrong with the gauge/sender and I’ve tried multiple different things to get them to work. I’m not a mechanic but I’ve tried my best to do everything I can by myself to learn about how cars work. I need help figuring out if it’s the gauge not working properly or if I still have some kind of issue with my coolant system and I’m actually overheating.
My car is a 1993 Honda civic ex coupe automatic. The engine is not stock and I didn’t realize when I bought the car because I didn’t know much about them at the time. The block is stamped D15B8 but the head is a 16 valve.
any help at all greatly appreciated.
