D17z1

Howdy,

I posted this over in engine swaps but I'm going to try and post it here too...

Anyone know anything about the D17Z1?

I have my eye on a low mileage D17Z1 with the manual transmission attached. The current engine in my 2002 Civic LX 5 speed is a D17A1. As far as I can understand it the D17Z1 is the Asian/AUS export of the D17A1? Is there any reason the D17Z1 isn't a direct swap for the D17A1? They're both the SOHC non-Vtec engine types.

Thanks for any help!

Re: D17z1

I’m guessing there will be some wiring differences. I was corresponding with a different user who was asking about a different D16 to use in his older civic. While physically the same, the ECU was different and various wiring diagrams showed a slight difference. I can’t find much on the D17Z1 but I suspect it’s similar.

Re: D17z1

Is it significantly cheaper? Why not just get another D17A, D17A1, or D17A2?

Re: D17z1

My best guess is it's an obscure Brazil made engine.
Z2/Z3 are Brazil made

It's not significantly cheaper at all but it does come with the 5 speed transmission and it's low mileage. I was hoping for a direct swap without having a VTec left totally flapp'n in the wind as my car is the 02 Civic LX with a D17A1 engine. There don't seem to be many D17A1's floating around. There are LOADS of D17A2's around though. I dunno... I mean the Vtec would be nice if I could get it to run, but I was kinda hoping to have a complete powertrain rebuilt and possibly tricked out so that when the next massive problem shows up I can swap the engine out again. For as it is within my power I'm not getting rid of this car. (I mean unless I can get my hands on a 92 civic 5 speed VX, then yeah the 02 civic LX is history)
