2004 Civic DX... Persistent A/C - alternator belt squeal
2004 Civic DX... Persistent A/C - alternator belt squeal
I did a routine timing belt / water pump replacement a couple of weeks ago, along with belts & hoses. Everything went like clockwork but now I have a persistent squealing problem with alternator - a/c belt. I have replaced the belt twice since the job, playing with different tensions each time. The compressor clutch and alternator spin nicely with the belt off. There are no oil leaks. A/C pressures are within specs and it blows cold. With the lower dust cover off I can see the compressor stall (and the belt squeals) when I have someone rev the engine. I tried Gates, Continental and Partsmaster belts. I have an OEM Honda belt ordered but have little faith that it will do the trick. The car has 91,000 miles on it and is stock / unmolested. I would appreciate any help or ideas... Thanks so much in advance!

Make sure belt is a good brand.
Does it squeal upon cold startup?
AC turned OFF, belt still squeals?
Don't play with different tensions. Tighten that belt until it doesn't squeal.
