Ordering motor mounts and have a few questions.

First, are the mounts the same for a hybrid vs a regular 1.7 L? The set I'm looking at is for the 1.7 with a manual trans. My hybrid is a manual trans.

also, do the four mounts in the set usually include a trans mount? There isn't a lot of product description. Just a picture showing four mounts for 48 bucks.

thanks people!

I'm hoping this will maybe solve an issue I'm having climbing in second. Usually if I shift early, there isn't a bump, but I get a bump in the trans when I hit high rpms in second. Doesn't always happens. Happens when I'm climbing in third sometimes too.

I would not buy 4 mounts for $48. That sounds incredibly cheap and the mounts are probably terrible

Re: Ordering motor mounts and have a few questions.

Manual vs automatic and sedan vs coupe make a difference in the mounts.

Hybrid is a completely different setup and needs yet again different mounts.

Possible bump is also control arm issue.. I would be moving things around with a pry bar before replacing random parts.

The control arms are definitely done on this car. They're getting replaced also. Maybe I should do them First? Prices on the arms are around 50 for both. Is that too cheap as well?

Re: Ordering motor mounts and have a few questions.

Did you test the current motor mounts?
Have a helper put the car in 1st gear with the brake pedal depressed and e-brake. You standing on side of engine bay watch for engine lift..there will be some but it shouldn't be excessive. Do the same test in reverse gear. Do the tests in an open parking lot to give yourself plenty of room in case the car moves. Read: https://www.eeuroparts.com/blog/2619...ounts-are-bad/ and https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...s-6spd-820188/

Another way to test in as Slumpert mentioned: using a pry bar from underneath the car on mounts and control arms.

If you purchase those cheap, solid mounts expect more vibrations felt in steering wheel and interior cabin. Also, expect they won't last nearly as long as OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and there may be fitment problems.

Re: Ordering motor mounts and have a few questions.

I shot a video... duct taped my phone to the inside of the front bumper shooting back at the engine. It rocked over bumps and when accelerating some. Tbh I'm not a great judge of what is or isn't too much. I'll call Honda on Monday to price the mounts.

Are aftermarket control arms alright? Anyone bought aftermarket mounts or arms and been happy?

The arms look solid and from what I can see there's no wear on the bushings, just dust, but there is definitely popping and clicking during turning and over speed bumps. Axles have already been replaced.

Those noises could be the ball joint or struts as well. I've replaced a few ball joints on 6th gens but not on 7th's so, I don't know if the 7th gen's control arm and ball joint are one piece or separate (6th gen style).

Consider bringing it to a mechanic to inspect front end including suspension, steering and motor mounts. If, after the inspection it needs a recommended repair and you want to do it yourself..then tip the mechanic for his time (if it's a free inspection).

Check the balljoints and struts like megalodong said.
they need to be pressed in and out of the control arm

Re: Ordering motor mounts and have a few questions.

Going back to your questions through, on my coupe I bought a full set of Pioneer brand mounts from rock auto.

Definately noticed a bit more “buzz” in the gear shift, and who knows how long it will last, but the engine is much more stable.

Suggest don’t remove more than one mount at a time, and use the oem jack and a block of wood to lift up the quadrant your working on to make removal and installation simpler.

Safetly tip, the rear transmission mount bolts seem to like holding a decent amount of rusty water, don’t have your face right under them as you loosen em.

Re: Ordering motor mounts and have a few questions.

Thanks so much!

Yeah, 1a auto has the right videos to watch for all the stuff I suspect needs replacing. I like the idea of asking a mechanic to inspect it because I can honestly replace this stuff myself and save a lot of money in the process. The car has 365k on it, and I'd like it to run for another 300k if I can manage it.

And yes, the ball joints are separate on the 7 gen.

Don't buy cheap ones. You'll hear noise. Try your local junkyard

Re: Ordering motor mounts and have a few questions.

Traditionally on Civics all motor mounts are solid rubber except for the driver's side top mount which is liquid filled to reduce vibration (NVH). I used Anchor brand on my previous 6th gen and vibration did increase but, it subsided after a few months to where it wasn't too noticeable. On the plus side the solid mounts seem to help the car launch better from a dead stop.
