Mechanical Problems/Vehicle Issues and Fix-it ForumIf you've got a problem you just can't figure out, a noise you can't diagnose, or a Check Engine Light that won't go away, ask about it here!
So recently I’ve been driving my 2002 Honda Civic lx and when I start the 1st time it will crank fine and run fine. Once the temp gauge starts to go up about 1/4 of the way it will start to drop as if the car is cold. Still runs ok except rpms idle at 1000. Once I get to where I’m going and attempt to leave, the car won’t start and temp gauge reads cold. After about 20-25 minutes I’ll turn the key and temp gauge will start to rise. Once that happens it will allow me to crank the car and drive fine. Once I stop again and try to start the car it reads cold and won’t crank until I wait 20-25 minutes and the temp gauge rises again. It will fall again back to cold when I’m driving it and runs fine. Just can’t figure out what the problem is. If it was my thermostat then why would it rise when the car is off. I figure it must be a sensor... anyone have any idea as to what this problem is?
