New Exhaust / Reset ECU?

I just got a magnaflow catback installed, the engine seems to be a little outta sorts when sitting at idle. It normaly sits at exactly 700 RPM's. Now it hovers around 800 - 900 for a few seconds then dumps back down to 700. Would resetting the ECU help the system adjust quicker or should I just drive it until the ECU figures it all out?

I searched and saw many conflicting post. Some say reset, some say don't. Is there anyone who knows for sure?

seriously, resetting your ECU will make the car think that the exhaust is stock and it will never know there was a change. it will learn to dole out the fuel appropriately and you will be happy. and besides what can it hurt to reset it?

yeah reset it. . . i did it last week. . before, after i installed the injen intake. . the engine shook at idle. .then when i installed the exahust plus piping. . the engine shook a little more plus when i would start it in the morning i would look under the car and the piping would be shaking like crazy. But my friend just told me to reset the ECU like he did. . he just unhooked the battries for 10 min then turned on the car for 20 min without reving or anything and the engine stopped shaking a lot and the exahust was not as loud as it use to be. . .before the ECU restet. .the exahust was really really really really loud!

you want to know why the idle is rocking? It is b/c the computer is adjusting to the knew back pressure. There are sensors in the cat that tell the computer that more fuel is not being used. The same happens when you put on a intake or headers. Not so much the header b/c they do not make much a difference unless you get a full header systems unlike the DCS one. Resetting the computer will take longer for the computer to compensate. Honda said it takes a good 10 miles for the computer to finish testing.

personally i'm going to reset my ecu when i put my magnaflow in this week.

ive done some research and the only bad part is that some people say it doesnt run very well when you first reset it... better than waiting 100+ miles for it to learn on its own IMO

Anytime you do ANYTHING like a new exhaust, intake, headers, etc. you should reset your ECU. It is really hard on your car if you don't. Like it is so hard to disconnect your battery for five minutes anyhow. Just do it.

uh... from what ive read you disconnect your battery for like 10 minutes... then you reconnect it, turn on your car and leave it running idle (dont touch gas at all) for 20 minutes

then you turn it off and you are set

It seems like resetting the ecu would restore everything back to factory settings. Just a thought.

it would be the best thing if you reset your ECU, cause it would be like your computeris in learning mode and it will adapt better to your mods.....

u can reset your ecu by pulling the blue number 15 fuse out for 10 sec and reapply in the fuse box under the hood. if you read the fuse box cover it sais ECU on that fuse. it works try it.
