Is there a seal at this Oil leak?
Is there a seal at this Oil leak?
Hi Guys, looking at this pict, I can see a leak on passenger side while standing in front of the engine. It's for 2003 Civic LX with AT.
I can't really tell looking at part list, if there's a seal underneath this black rounded cover or is there's a seal/gasket?. What else could be the reason for oil leak?
Thanks for the help.

You just buy the whole plug, it comes with the new O ring built in.
The plug is just under $10 (MSRP) and pops in place in about 5 seconds (unless there's an EGR valve in the way, but your pic doesn't show an EGR).
Most of the time, at least one of the lock tabs breaks off of the old one when you pry it out of the head. Check after you get it out, and see if you can fish out the broken piece(s) before shoving the new part in.

As always, thanks so much for helping out EZ
Should I put any sealant or bond or anything before I put the new one in?
I am not sure if my car has EGR port, I don't see any and it's an LX.

If you had EGR, the valve would prevent easy access to that leaking plug. You'd have posted swear words about rusted nuts and not having tools that will reach them instead of a calmly typed out question LOL

As always, thanks a lot

marvelous insight and great study of human behavior! . Or in my case wonder why the front nut holding the egr valve will not budge at all. This was a joy to read this morning , thanks and Happy New Year!

Just to close this thread, I was able to remove the old one and inserted new(Beck Arnley) plug without any silicone/goop and so far seems like there's no leak.
Old ones O-ring was completely hard/brittle and hence no gasket effect was happening.
Thanks to everyone for their help.
