Fan speeds 1 and 2 not working

1997 Civic EX
The switch to change the heating/cooling fan only works on speeds 3 and 4. 1 and 2 are not blowing any air. They still show as on, as the lights still turn on. Anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks!

This happened to me as well. In my case the contacts on the back of the switch need to be sprayed with electrical contact cleaner. PIA to remove everything to get to them but it worked and 5 years later it's still working.

Great, I'll give it a try once I'm ready to change the lighting in the panel and let the thread know. Thank you!

Re: Fan speeds 1 and 2 not working

If its not the switch, you can ohm test the resistor set.

Re: Fan speeds 1 and 2 not working

On mine it was the resistor pack which sits in the air ducting behind the glove box (at least on rhd models in the UK). Mine only worked on the top two speeds before I replaced the resistor pack. The resistor pack is peanuts on ebay especially a HK or China sourced one like I got.

There's Youtube video of replacing it.

That's exactly what mines doing... Top 2 speeds only. That looks like the easiest and cheapest option so I will probably try that first

it worked! It all off about 5 minutes to replace the resistor and now all fan speeds work! Quick, easy, and cheap!
