D17a2 to D17a JDM change oil pan?
D17a2 to D17a JDM change oil pan?
Hey all! I'm a Civic noob (though not a mechanical noob). I recently picked up an 02 Civic with a blown D17a2. I also have a D17a to put in. I noticed the D17a2 has an aluminum oil pan and the D17a has steel. Should I swap pans? will that cause an issue?
Also, anything else I should look out for during the swap?
Thanks for you help!

I don't think the pan will matter.....
Does the D17a have VTEC? Your computer will poop a brick if it doesn't see the right signals from the VTEC system.

Thanks ezone. I learned the D17a IS a vtec (I almost pooped a brick until I was sure it was!)
I may try to swap pans because I noticed the original aluminum pan has brackets that mount to the pan and to the trans.
I'll keep you all posted!

Just an update. . . I did swap oil pans from my engine (w/ AT) to the JDM engine to be installed. There were a lot of brackets that mounted on the oil pan to the trans. Used RTV for a gasket, made sure sumps were the same, and it worked great!
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: D17a2 to D17a JDM change oil pan?
I just did the d17A2 to D17A swap and I didn't bother swapping the oil pan since the jdm was leak free and don't want to mess with a good gasket and I don't see a benefit. I might do it when it starts leaking. Exhaust fits fine with the jdm brackets.
