New Member - Looking to buy 7th Honda
My 1998 Civic is looking bad, but runs great. I need a newer reliable Honda to get to work every day. From what I've been reading newer doesn't always equal more reliable, even Honda's. They just don't make them like they used to.
It's not worth putting any money into my old Civic so I'd like to get a 3-4 year old one with less than 50k miles on it. Probably Certified Pre-owned from the local Honda dealer (Executive Honda, Wallingford, CT). We've had good luck with them since buying the 2010 Odyssey from then July 2013. I know we'll pay more but I'm afraid what I could get from most dealers who buy them at action and shine them up for sale. We can't afford to pay for repairs.
Any suggestions? Things to look for? I've considered a Fit but they are too small for the mostly highway miles I do.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Welcome to the forum!
I'd say look for a '10 or newer Civic.
I have a '12, it just went out of 3/36 warranty but it's still got 5/60 powertrain coverage.
Look for a NEW car with full warranty then.
Keeping some money in the bank for repairs and maintenance is ALWAYS a good plan no matter what car you have.
This seems to be pretty universal.
A PRE-purchase inspection (by a tech YOU trust) can be worth gold.
Up until I bought my Civic, almost every car I have had was dirt cheap...from $1000 to $100 to dragging one out of a junkyard and building it up...
I figured I could throw money at them all day long and still be ahead.
