How much to replace the aircon unit??!!??

I need your direction please.

The aircon stopped working with my civic and I had it checked by the Honda Dealership. They said that there is a leak and I will need to replace the unit as a stone may have been kicked up under the car causing the damage. They have to remove the front of my car and replace the aircon unit.

They are asking for £700 - £800 to repair. This is really expensive. Any ideas?

What exactly are they replacing? AC parts are expensive.

Never hurts to get another opinion before spending the money.

They should be able to show you the leak. If they cant or wont, go elsewhere.

Based on your description....
I dont know real numbers on your side of the pond, but typically a condensor replacement isnt a lot of work. It does involve opening the system and vacuum/recharge is part of the labor. Most of the time the drier gets replaced too.

Re: How much to replace the aircon unit??!!??

This was posted in 8th and 9th gen section (2006 and newer). Both have the drier incorporated as part of the condenser assembly (if your cars are roughly the same as ours here).

7th gen and earlier use a separate drier, mounted away from the condenser.

EDIT: North American cars.
IDK what's over across the pond.

Re: How much to replace the aircon unit??!!??

Thank you for all your input.

I spoke to the dealer again and they have said that the aircon system is damaged but they will need to take the front of the car apart to reach the air con unit and discover why it isn't working. I am going to take your advice and go elsewhere for a quote to establish / understand what is wrong.

I have had my civic from new ( 7years) and am worried to let a non Honda dealer mess with it.

Will keep you posted with the update as I am not very savvy when it comes to the mechanical side of things.

Thank you again for all your feedback and have a super week.
