Question 94 civic plug wire issues

Hey there i recently purchased a 1994 civic hatchback and i am having a few issues. I decided upon the purchase of this vehicle to do a few routine maintenance things. I have replaced the cooling fan switch, coolant temp sending unit, valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals, drive belt, removed the AC and added an intake. After the plugs were installed i noticed that the #2 plug wire is being pushed out of its bore in the valve cover. I don't notice any difference in performance or idle but it is driving me crazy . I cant figure it out. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Re: 94 civic plug wire issues

Got that plug tight? If it isn't tight enough to seal (or threads boogered up and can't screw all the way in), combustion gases could be pushing the wire out of the hole.

Is that plug any good? Move it to a different hole and see if THAT wire starts creeping out.

Cheapo plug wires might not fit well anyway. Does the terminal in the end make the satisfying CLICK when seated fully on the spark plug? It needs to.
Sometimes I have to spray some silicone on the top section of the boots to get them to go all the way into the tube right.

Re: 94 civic plug wire issues

I'll have to try switching the plug to another tube. I torqued them to the specs in my haynes manual but maybe i missed something. I put quality parts on the car (Bosch) so i hope its not due to bad parts. Thank you for the help and ill post back and let you know if the problem is fixed or persists.

If threads are boogered up, you could attain the specified torque without ever getting the plug completely seated and sealed. Just an example.

Zone shopper, huh?
Bosch is not a quality product for an Asian car.

Use the correct NGK or DENSO plugs.
ZFR5F-11 (NGK)
KJ16CR-L11 (DENSO)
EDIT: See the catalog link below

The brand of wires isn't nearly as important IMO as long as you can get them seated and connected properly.
There are tons of crappy quality wires out there....
NGK normally makes great quality wires.
But never put Bosch plugs in a Honda.

Okay i guess ill have to pull all the plugs and check the threads. And good to know about the plugs. Can you recommend a good place for quality Honda parts? OE and aftermarket?

Re: 94 civic plug wire issues

Seems like most parts stores can get NGK and/or DENSO plugs, but they might have to be ordered. (Parts stores that push Botch and are open on Sunday may not be all that willing.)

Many Honda dealers nationwide sell parts at wholesale prices online, google is your friend. (Shipping charges sometimes removes all advantage though, so be careful.)
I use Majestic (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/) here in the forums just because that was the first one I found with a somewhat 'real' online parts catalog, I can easily link images in here.

EDIT 1: I'm not sure if you can even buy factory wires for something that old now. BRB
EDIT 2: Maybe, it doesn't say the set is discontinued here http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...D+-+SPARK+PLUG
EDIT 3: Edited link above...I picked CX in that link? IDK

Re: 94 civic plug wire issues

Thanks for all the help. I think i will just order the right plugs for the car and start there. Hopefully the threads in the cylinder head aren't jacked up.

Re: 94 civic plug wire issues

Concur with ezone - Bosch makes good products, but Hondas can be very picky about thie spark plugs, and like ezone said, stick with NGK or Denso. Same for new plug wires. You can get lots of aftermarket, but if you stick with NGK, you will be happy (try Amazon as a source).

When you moved the plug to a different cylinder, did the pushed-out plug wire stay with the same cylinder or follow the spark plug? That will tell you a lot.

Re: 94 civic plug wire issues

well I think I found the problem. Seems the plug backed itself out of its bore somehow. all plugs have been retightened to spec and the plug wire is staying seated...I will have a set of ngk's coming as soon as the tax check gets here!!
