05 civic gas mileage/ performance issues
I have an 05 Honda civic with 98k on it. Ive changed the trans fluid, spark plugs, keep up with regular maintenance, but the last few months Ive notice my gas mileage is no where near what it use to be. I use to be able to get 400+ on a tank and now im in the low 300's. I'm not hard on the car at all so I don't know what it could be. I have zero error lights on as well. I have read that the fuel filter is in the tank and is connected to the pump- so you would have to replace the whole thing? There are times where i feel like I can literally watch my gas gauge drop. anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Re: 05 civic gas mileage/ performance issues
It's probably normal?
You are where?
It's how cold there? (17*F)
You let the car warm up for how long when it's super cold?
Your tire pressures are how low right now (because of the cold)?
Short trip driving?
All these kill gas mileage in a big way.
Right now, my own gas mileage is down by 1/4 to 1/3 from my usual summer mileage. My range per tank has gone down even more than yours has.
Yes your fuel filter is in the tank (built into the pump module).
No, it does not sound like your problem.
From Honda you would have to purchase a huge chunk to get it.....but some other places sell it separately.
BTW you are due for the timing belt, if you have not already done it.

Re: 05 civic gas mileage/ performance issues
I usually let it warm up for about 30 seconds just to get the oil going when its cold. I'm in Upstate New York its been in the 20's for average temp this time of year here. Thank you Ezone I do need to replace that.
Re: 05 civic gas mileage/ performance issues
it's not just letting the car sitting and warming up, engines in general consume more fuel in cold weather as opposed to warm weather,
