Shift boot Replacement

Before the flaming begins, I did a search and found the following DIY link that has a DEAD LINK to the actual page showing you how to do it yourself:

7thgencivic Link

2k1civics DEAD Link DIY Webpage

I installed the revo short shifter system and kumo sport bushings and now have to much shift boot and want to trim some of it. I dont want to go butchering my car trying to figure out how to do it without a DIY.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Oren

Hey Storm.
That site will be up soon i hope. It is ToastyGhostys site. It is some times down. When u put the Kumosports in, all you have to do is look up and u see the staples for the boot.. i dont know if that is what u r looking for or not

Hey Storm how do you like the setup up of the Revo with the kuhmo sport bushings, how does it feel, how does it shift, does it feel okay in gear??

Do you have any pics?

Thanks, Got it.

1.) Remove the console
2.) Flip the center console upside down and you'll see 5-6 screws holding the shift boot in place. Unscrew those screws.
3.) Next, you'll see that there are staples stapled threw the leather and into the plastic that holds the shift boot so it doesnt move. Remove those staples.
4.) Next you will have to Unclip the middle part of your shift boot. Theres about 6 clips that hold the piece onto the console. After you unclip the console you can have remove the shift boot.
5.) Cut the shift boot (upward) removing small pieces of the shift boot at a time. Then try mounting it back and see if its tighter and more to your liking. (youll want to remove material from the shift boot that lies in between where the shift boot gets stapled to the console. Once you remove the shift boot youll see what I mean by this.

I dont have a digital camara but I can say that adjusting the throttle cable (link) and having the revo shifter system makes the car a hell of a lot more fun to drive. The bushings give the shifter a more solid feel. If your changing gears and you have the rubber bushings you'll feel that the shifter gives a little in each direction when shifting gears. Put the gear in first gear and once its in first gear push the shifter a little further and you'll feel it moves a little more forward. With kumo sport bushings (metal bushings) the shifter stays in place and theres no movement in any direction.

As for the Kumo sport shifter system, I love it. I ordered both the revo sport shifter system AND DC sports short shifter adapter. The short shifter adapter was delayed so I installed the Revo system and called autodynamic and asked if my adapter was coming and they said it was delayed. Sine it wasnt shipped yet I decided to just cancel my order (which he did nicely).

So now I have the revo system and it rocks. I would agree that it reduces throw by about 40%. kumosport bushings AND revo system took me about 30-40 minutes to install. I dont see how an adapter can help more. I heard someone on this site (I think with both the revo and DC sports shifter adapter) say if they sneezed the car would change gears. I could imagine that. I would just get the kumosport bushings and revo shifter system and see how you like it. Im willing to bet youd be satisfied with that.

Apologize for my spelling mistakes, hope that helped.

The shift boot piece is actually really easy to get out. To get the console out, there are two plastic rivets at the front of the console on either side. Use the tip of a screwdriver to push in the center, and they'll pop right out. then hit the two screws at the rear of the console. Then pull up on the piece around the e-brake with the storage compartment and the tray. It's held in with clips, so just pull up and it should snap right out. Mine was in there pretty tight, and i had to work at it for a little bit, but I eventually got it out. From here there's two screws right behind the shift mechanism that you can see with the panel out. Take those out, take off your shift ****, and pull the console out. With the console out of the car, you can see the 4 screws that hold in the plastic piece of the console that actually holds the boot. Pull out those screws, and once you've got that piece free,it shouldn't be hard to pull out the staples and adjust the boot however you like it.
