Re: Honda Civic 2004 / Radiator Fan problem
Since it works if you jump the fan switch, there's your problem. Replace the fan switch
edit: so, I may have replied before I read it thoroughly enough. You may have gotten a faulty fan switch the second time around. My brain read "thermoswitch" as "thermostat"
Here's to me hoping ezone pops in with resistance specs or whatever specs necessary to test said fan switch
edit2: just some speculation, you may have some compounded problems. Have you tried to see what happens when your car gets to operating temp, or did you jump straight to the a/c-on test? If your fans turn on when the switch is activated, but not when your a/c is on, you may have another problem on your hands. That is just speculation, however.

Re: Honda Civic 2004 / Radiator Fan problem
Thx for the fast reply, when i push the a/c button, the button becomes green and nothing happen. When can get's it's normal temperature on idle the radiator fan don't come up either. When i short the the plastic thing, the one you connect the fan switch in it the fan starts perfectly.
Can i short it constantly by the time i find the problem ? Because it's been 2 week i take the bus. Or it is not good to do so ?
And i forget to say, my frinds came in with his computer reader, because i had a check engine light, the code was P0113 something about air intake sensor i think...i don't know if there is any link !

Wouldn't hurt to replace your IAT sensor, since you're throwing a code for it anyways. There might be a link, but I'm not too sure about that one.
here's some info about the IAT sensor in case you want to replace it
Part number: 37880-PLC-004
List price: $38.47 (You can get it at Majestic Honda for $26.93 plus shipping). Expect to pay a few bucks over the list price if you intend on buying from a dealership

Contacts close at whatever temperature, somewhere around 200*F IIRC. Contacts open again a few degrees below that.
If I get really ambitious, I might actually look up a spec later.

(It might be too cold to start the AC even if it does work)
Hey guys,i can't get my radiator fan to start.
Is there a problem; why are you expecting it to run now?
It can take for-freekin-ever to run the fans at idle.....If there is any cool breeze reaching the radiator, that might be sufficient cooling to never need to run the fan.
If it is 1*C up there right this minute and you have the car sitting outside, I seriously doubt the fans would ever need to run. Especially if you have the heater running.
-----------------------------
On the P0113 IAT, make sure it is plugged in first (and no broken wires if you have CAI). If someone unplugged it with the key on or engine running, it will set the code. Erase codes and see if the same code returns right away. If it does, then you have a problem. If it stays erased, then go drive it and see what happens.
I can't remember ever actually seeing one of Hondas IAT sensors that was bad.

Re: Honda Civic 2004 / Radiator Fan problem
That alone doesn't mean much to me, I totally expect it to be hot.
If there is smoke, then something leaked on it?
Water/steam (raining up there)?
Spilled coolant? Leak?
Does your temp gauge read way higher than normal?
Will that code reader show live engine data?
Exactly how hot is the engine getting?
Re: Honda Civic 2004 / Radiator Fan problem
i will try to clean up the radiator, maybe some coolant is still on it...after a 20 minutes ride i see a little bit of smoke coming out of the hood. The temprature gage i see in the car is ok, 1 bar under the middle.

Re: Honda Civic 2004 / Radiator Fan problem
This part sounds absolutely normal. No reason for the fan to run if it is not needed.
If the AC system can't engage the compressor (for whatever reason -- good or bad), the fans are not needed.
Re: Honda Civic 2004 / Radiator Fan problem
I have a question but don't want to make a new thread. This thread came up when I searched for my question.
I have a radiator leak and need to buy a new one, but I don't know how to determine if I have a Toyo or Denso.
Is there a spot that it is stamped on? The cap says Denso, is it safe to say it is a Denso?

Re: Honda Civic 2004 / Radiator Fan problem
Aftermarket wants you to know the original brand, when the replacements they sell you are all the same?
They all sell you a radiator for an automatic. If you don't need the trans cooler, just don't use the cooler. Cap off the tubes and run with it.
The cap says Denso, is it safe to say it is a Denso?

Catalog looks like DENSO was used in US and Canadian built cars.
TOYO was used in Japan built cars.
But refer to the first part of this reply about aftermarket stuff. It's super rare for anyone to actually buy a factory radiator here.
Stick with a well known brand if possible.
I have a note here on my desktop to avoid the brands Spectra, Murray, and CSF. Probably due to stupid cap and neck designs that aren't common standard or just the wrong type for the car.

Re: Honda Civic 2004 / Radiator Fan problem
Thanks for the response ezone.
I went to the Denso website to do a part search and it came up with the Denso or Toyo. I believe the only difference is the mounting for the fans. I will remove the top cover and see if it is written on the top.
Wasn't going to mess with an autozone or pepboys radiator, would rather just order an OE one (this one made it 177K miles). I did try majestic Honda and it listed either a Toyo or Denso but would't tell me which I had even with my VIN.

Re: Honda Civic 2004 / Radiator Fan problem
All I saw in the catalog was TOYO was only listed for Japan built cars (first VIN character J).
If your VIN starts with a number, it should have a Denso unit.
