1998 Civic DX 5spd Transsmision Problem

1998 Civic DX 5spd Transsmision Problem
Hey yall,
So 5th gear in my 1998 DX is messing up. It sounds like it's not engaging. The shifter will go into 5th but when it does I hear a real bad grinding noise, a high pitched whine, and when I step on the gas the RPMs shoot up. It's only in 5th. R-4 is fine.
Any idea on what it could be and a guesstimate on how much the repair would cost?
Any info or insight is helpfull!
