02' civic MT clutch/bell housing question
so i destroyed my clutch on my 2002 civic manual transmission LX by driving like a moron and we've taken the transaxle apart to get to the clutch, i take it out and the side of the transmission that connects to the clutch looks like this.
we know we need a new clutch kit including bearings, but will the bearings move properly over this mangled part that i've outlined in the picture? do i need to order a whole new clutch housing? and is that outlined part even part of the clutch housing or do i need to order/craigslist/junkyard/pickapart in search of a different removable piece?
i've been to so many pick a parts locally and none of them even have 7th gen civics, and i don't really have money for a brand new clutch housing from a dealership, but if i do have to order one i want to be sure im replacing the proper part

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Congratulations. I haven't seen someone tear THAT part up before now.
I THINK that is cast into the case section (I could be wrong, I've been wrong before)....meaning a big chunk of the trans, plus setting up bearing preloads and other measurements and adjustments that most people don't have the patience to do.
You might be better off looking for a used trans.

It's removable, you'll have to pull the transmission though, fully and properly, can't just back it off since it needs to come out.
A new main shaft is a 230 dollar part from Majestic (cheapest place to buy OEM stuff, although not the fastest).
But you don't know what else has been damaged behind that. A new countershaft is 190 bucks, and other MT parts are also expensive.
Plus, you would have to be comfortable with having to pull, disassemble and rebuild it.
By the end the parts and labor (paid for, or your own) will most likely exceed the costs of buying and installing a second hand trans. Unless you have the time/spare car, then it could be a learning experience.

How did you DO that??

Yeah but I wouldn't use that again and its an expensive part at even at 190 (it looks curved to me but it may just be my eyes).
I was emphasizing how replacing individual components may end up being more costly and labor intensive than just getting a used one.
Edit: I'm still curious to know what caused that.
