03 Civic sedan suspension question
03 Civic sedan suspension question
Hey everyone new to site, but have been looking at forums for a while now. i currently own an 03 civic sedan Lx and am in market for struts and lowering springs. (possibly coilovers). i am only looking for 1 to 2 inch drop all around with comfort only in mind not handling and performance this is my daily and never will be tracked. im not an aggressive driver i just wan a nice looking car (for now) since i am in college and pay for it myself.
i was just wondering why the sticky says
"Tein S. Tech 160F/290R Drop 1.34F/1.38R (P/P), not recommend for sedan
Tein Hitech 140F/260R Drop 0.75F/0.79R (P/P), not recommend for sedan"
why are these not good for sedans and what do i need to look for in the lowering springs to know they are good for the sedan?
i know it states get higher rates in rear so you dont have a rake effect but these have higher rates in rear.
i plan on getting tokico blues or koni yellows (really want strt but doesnt seem they make them for the 03 civic) and matching with lowering springs
any input would be much appreciated.

Re: 03 Civic sedan suspension question
Have heard where alot of sedans have a bad sagging problem with the teins, but ive heard alot of good things about tein street basis coilovers, only like $840 shipped, thats what im going with once mine blow. and they wont give you the sagging look because of the adjustment.
Re: 03 Civic sedan suspension question
do you think 840 is too much for just a daily? idc illl just have to save more which is not a big deal. but really the struts for close to 500 and 200 dollar springs really 140 isnt gonna make much of a difference and could be adjusted for preference. i have heard of the extended top hats for lowering cars are they a good idea to go with the tein basis coilovers?

Let me rephrase that for you: is your safty and life worth risking on cheap suspension? there are two very important things on your car you must never cheap out on, and they are brakes and suspension.
if you just spend 140 on springs and have them on stock shocks, they will blow out your stock shocks very quick. then you will have a blown suspension that doesnt dampen properly (or damen unevenly) and you run the risk of losing and hitting a tree (ask me how i know).
the moral of the story is, if you are going to do it, do it right the first time...you will save time and money. suspension is not a cheap mod and is very dangerous if done incorrectly.

they are a relativly new product from tein...however, tein has built itself a very good reputation and has backed it up with quality products... so i wouldnt doubt their quality just because they launched a new product

Re: 03 Civic sedan suspension question
My safty is on the line as well. :P
From what I gather, Tein S tech's aren't particularly stiff springs, so running them on stock struts wouldn't be a huge problem unless your struts are currently running on the edge of it's final days.
Running something a little stiffer like Eibachs or Megans would probably blow out a bit quicker.
I'm dropping my vic with S tech's on stock struts within the next week or so.

NO NO NO lol ^^^^^^ He is talking about an extra $140 to go from oe replacement struts and shocks with springs to the tein basics, not just paying $140 for anything alone.

Wat
I swear reading from his and sleepys post we were talking about stechs lol.
But I mean if you're replacing the struts as well, yeah, might *** well just get coilovers for the extra few bucks.

Re: 03 Civic sedan suspension question
the new tien BASIS are replacements for the older tien BASIC'S the BASIC'S were known for blowing shocks prematurely and sagging. so because there built on the older platform and are new products not many people have them so only time will tell if they will holdup.
Re: 03 Civic sedan suspension question
yea if you read my second post i specifically say "500 for struts and 200 for lowering springs" (which was original plan, but when pearlvic posted about tein basis i was implying the 840 he said they would cost isnt much more so i may as well go ahead and save the extra money. sorry if seemed confusing at all didnt mean to be. and im not going cheap with my new car just got an 03 civic sedan and want to do it right the first time unlike my old ek i went ebay (turned out fine but newer car and gonna be my car for a while so want to do what is safe and smart) thanks for everyones input. and does anyone else know of coilovers with good name/brand for the 900 price range? like i said for my daily so really want comfort over "slammed" (just not me) looking for 1.75 to 2.5 lowering if that pretty much thinking of a 195-[55/60]-15 or possibly 195-[50/55]-16 with a one finger gap.
ALSO really want them to last as long as possible
Thanks again

Re: 03 Civic sedan suspension question
so decided to go with coilovers, i am thinking of GC/Koni i know you must hack the stock front struts. has anyone done this? Could anyone do it with proper instructions? and would you suggest buying 2 front struts from junk yard to do it on?
its between that setup and full coilovers
idk what other brands are good for this type of drop 1-2 inches and comfortable not bouncy or too stiff and in my price range around 1000 max and gonna last me a long time (which is y i chose koni/gc because of the lifetime warranty)
Thanks
