does anyone know or has anyone had this code come up before?
If so is it the sensor itself or something else entirely?

You need to post the actual code numbers. Always.

Coolant Temperature Sensor #2 is in the bottom tank of the radiator.


2 problem areas:

Software update for a P0128 code. (Of course a dealer would be needed to do the software update, or an extremely well equipped independent shop.)

Loose or corroded terminals in ECT sensor 2 or its 2P connector.
Bulletin 09-092 addresses both of these......

My experience is this one seems to be the most common fix when this issue comes up. Most here seem to need the switch and the wiring repairs.

This bulletin should be the fix for your codes.

I got my first check engine light ever in my`06 Civic LX coupe owned since new two weeks ago at 277,000 mi. It happened right after starting and driving one block on a warm morning. I scanned: the only code was P0128, which indicates coolant not hot enough downstream from the thermostat. The temperature gauge reading was AOK normal. (I learned that these cars have two coolant temperature sensors. The second one is in the bottom of the radiator, and is prone to trouble with its relatively exposed harness connection.) For the time being, I erased the code, to see if it would recur. It has not. I suppose my computer just had a senior moment.
