Running Hot and AC Going
Running Hot and AC Going
2005 Honda Civic and it is starting to run hot at random times when I idle. Like real hot, like the gauge will go all the way up, but when I drive it goes back down. Also the Air Conditioning cold air will randomly go out and feel sticky, like the condenser isn't working, then will get cold again. Any ideas on this? I read the sticky and perhaps it is the head gasket, but I remember noticing random temperature spikes ages ago... could it be the thermostat? Just looking for some wisdom, thank you folks.
Also, is it safe to drive when it's going hot like this?

Re: Running Hot and AC Going
First off, dont drive a car that overheats.
It is not safe unless you want to buy a new motor.
Start with the basics.
Check your coolant levels are they where they should be?
Changing the thermostat wouldnt be a bad idea.
However you really need to get your coolant tested to see if the headgasket is bad.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

The PCM can and will shut down the air conditioning compressor when the engine is overheating.
