Viper 211HV not unlocking or locking doors
Viper 211HV not unlocking or locking doors
I have a 92 Civic LX that is already power everything so I figured it would be fairly easy to hook up a keyless entry system but I'm starting to have some problems. So far everything has went well, the horn, parking lights, ignition switch, power, ground is all hooked up and functioning as it should but I can't get it to lock or unlock after hooking up the wires. I ran 2 wires to the door and spliced into the lock/unlock wires at the control module in the door right about the speaker but nothing is happening when I try and use the remote(just the lights flashing/horn honk stuff). I know the wiring is fine because when I pull the plug off the Viper module and touch ground to the corresponding lock/unlock prongs, it will properly lock/unlock the doors. Its as if the viper unit isn't doing something correctly or there is still something I need to hook up.
I was under the impression that I only needed to wire in the "common lock output" wire and the "common unlock output" wire but as any of you probably know, that leaves 4 unused wires for lock/unlock functions(unlock normally closed, unlock normally open, lock normally closed, lock normally open). Is there something else I'm missing guys? I've haven't hooked up the domelight yet but even in the manual it says its optional so I don't see why it would cause this. I also haven't hooked up the "second unlock output", "ground-when-armed output", or any of the AUX connections.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Viper 211HV not unlocking or locking doors
If the Viper door outputs are (-) triggered and your car locks are then you should be good. Something that it could be is that the alarm output current is not enough to latch the locks. I think most alarms are around 200mA output but if the locks exceed this then they won't lock. You may have to use a relay for the lock and unlock function. It's best if you can measure the locking current with a multimeter to see if this is the case. Some cars use a multi (-) and (+) system. As far as I know Honda's are all (-) triggered but I don't know for sure. What are you using as a wire guide (instal sheet)?

I was thinking the same thing but the only thing that's odd about that is when I simply touch ground to one of the prongs on the plug, it'll function properly(whether lock or unlock). It seems to have worked fine in all the cases I've read about involving 92-95 civic's and viper alarms...hopefully its just something minor I'm doing wrong.
Re: Viper 211HV not unlocking or locking doors
Never mind bud, I figured it out. Turns out the "lock normally open" and "unlock normally open"(which are both input and lead into the same wire), need to be grounded. Stuck the wire on one of the bolts holding my seat in and the remote worked perfectly. Thank you for your help nonetheless
Now I just gotta get on that AUX headlight function...that would be a neat little addition to my old 92 Civic with power everything and keyless entry :P
