I dont get this..anyone else getting 60mpg out of their civic?
Alright guys, I dont understand how this is working, and maybe Im doing something wrong, so Im here to find out.
I have a 2000 Honda civic LX fourdoor, with a 1.6L engine, and auto tranny.
I filled the car today, and it took 8.039 gallons of gas.
I had drove the car 487 miles since the last time I filled it.
487 devided by 8.039 is 60.57mpg.
Ive done the math several times, ive tracked and traced several tanks on gas, and I always end up with between 50 and 60 miles per gallon.
Last time i drove it to fairbanks (120 miles each way), I filled it when I left fairbanks, and again when i got in delta, and it took $6.23. at the time gas was around $3.80 per gallon.
is anyone else getting this kind of mileage out of their civics? I know these damn cars are supposed to be good, but I never thought it would be this good. Am i figuring something wrong?

damn, you must be one hell of a driver! If that's for real nobody is getting that kind of mileage out of a 6gen.
The only thing I can think of is your car is in km (Canadian) and your reading it as miles.
487km = 302miles / 8 gallons = 37.8 mpg which is pretty much what I get from mine.
I worked a couple summers in Beaver Creek, Canada (and a couple more in Dawson City) many years ago. Love it up there.

I doubt many people will be getting 60 mpg even on a Civic Hybrid!
It's possible you overfilled the tank.. it happened once on another car of mine (2001 Toyota Prius).. the pump didn't click and I saw I had pumped over 12 gallons (on a 11.9 tank that wasn't empty) when it started to overflow. Luckily, I was on a road trip so I had a need to burn a lot of gas that day.. that tank went over 700 miles when a normal tank only can last about 450 miles on that car till the low fuel light comes on.
42 MPG is the record high mileage I've ever gotten on my 1999 Civic LX Automatic on a single tank.
Even if that were km's, 37.8 MPG is pretty impressive.. I've rarely gotten anything that high on a single tank except maybe on road trips.

my best was 44MPG, full of my stuff in the trunk (tires were 1" in the fenders...), driving down from canada to TN, and mine is manual... 60 is pretty high numbers, maybe stock99 is right on the assumption it's actually in km.
Re: I dont get this..anyone else getting 60mpg out of their civic?
It's not Km. I checked that. Its metered in miles. I just drive the car back and forth to work, and its 38 miles each way on the AK highway, and I cruise at between 65 and 70. if i let it run all the way down, it will get about 580 miles on a tank, and Ive never put more then $40 in it.

good god!
yer the winner of the forum, then.
No one around gets that much.
Just in case, pass the car in an autostore and have codes read, so you can make sure there are no fuel starvation going on.
It would cause problems pretty fast, so i don't think it's your case, just to be sure.

I've already checked that. No problems there. Ive tested it for power, and I can get 0-60 in just under 7 seconds. I work at the local Napa, and have worked as a mechanic, and I cant find anything wrong with the car. I bought it brand new last year. I went into the dealer, and told them I wanted the oldest civic they had in stock, and they brought me this one. Paid four grand cash, and drove it off the lot with less then 100 miles on it. And I LOVE this car. best vehicle Ive ever owned.

Just keep doing what your doing! I wouldnt touch a thing unless it needed it! Gas is on the rise again and your going to love your honda even more!
Im getting 35-40mpg in town in the winter when you would normally see the worst mpg and I love the thing!

Re: I dont get this..anyone else getting 60mpg out of their civic?
Gas is almost $5 a gallon here. I drove to Fairbanks yesterday, which is a little over 150 miles each way. I was able to hold 82 MPH up the pass, and for the whole round trip, with the running around i did, i only used $24 worth of gas.
Re: I dont get this..anyone else getting 60mpg out of their civic?
I don't know why but I think something is up with that... There is no way your getting 60mpg going 82mph... something in your calculation is not right.. I'm not trying to be negative, but these cars aren't THAT efficient. How many miles in total did you do? Including the running around.
Re: I dont get this..anyone else getting 60mpg out of their civic?
total, id say I drove at least 350 miles. I only did 82 up the pass, cuzz i wanted to see how much power the car had. I held it at 60 for most of the trip.
Re: I dont get this..anyone else getting 60mpg out of their civic?
I can take pics and stuff of my gauges and stuff, but right now, Im up over 500 miles on just over a half tank of gas.
Re: I dont get this..anyone else getting 60mpg out of their civic?
lol perhaps your odometer is off? Cant believe no one has said that by now..
If not that, it seems like your not taking account for the gas that you already have in the tank when your filling up..Basically you THINK your using 8 gallons when you are probably using close to 12-13 gallons. Remember that there is still a gallon or two in the tank after the light turns on. Not sure exactly how much but..
487 divided by 12 is 40.58 mpg A bit more realistic.

Yea, that it probably a lot closer. All I know for sure is the damn thing will go forever on 20 bucks, and I like it.
