2000 Civic VP Code P1457 205,000 Miles
2000 Civic VP Code P1457 205,000 Miles
I have gotten the code P1457 four times soon after filling up (3 times just over 20 miles & the last tine at 43 miles). Once the code is cleared it is just fine until the next fill up. There is no performance problem that I have noticed.
So far I have changed fuel caps, replaced the solenoid valve set & the two way valve but no luck. The 15A fuse (# 11 under the hood for FI E/M (ECM/PCM)) is OK too.
I have been filling the tank to about 10 gallons the last 4 fill ups & that seems to work. Any ideas, even a SWAG would be good.

This makes me wonder if you are one of those people that keeps adding fuel to make an even dollar on the pump.
Don't do that.
After the nozzle shuts off, pull it out.
Don't keep adding more gas to make an even number.

Guilty as charged. I always pump in enough to get an even dollar & have for 11 years on this car. Maybe I should test this idea on the next fill up & let the pump stop vs. me trying to stop near 10 gallons. I have been adding 5 gallons when it is half full or below so I don't get more than 10.
Thanks.
Thanks.

The code can happen when the charcoal canister gets flooded with raw gasoline, because you overfilled the tank.
The tank system is designed to have an airspace at the top, and by filling more after the pump shut off you removed all or most of that air space.
The charcoal canister is only designed to contain vapors, not liquid.

I'm back with the same problem
.
It is now throwing a code (P1457) about every 40 miles after a reset even with the tank 1/2 full. All the Autozone employees know my code when I walk in at this point. Is it smoke test time?
Milage is 215,000

The EVAP system splits into 2 halves, the gas tank and the charcoal canister. P1457 has to do with the canister side of it.
If you park indoors, do you smell gasoline? If you do, then a smoke test might be warranted. If not, then other steps are done first.
First step is to actuate each of the systems' solenoids, make sure each one clicks.
(Purge, CVS, and BPS solenoids).
If any don't click, then investigate that.
If the BPS solenoid (bypass solenoid) doesn't click, there is a bulletin for that.
I didn't see the Honda version of the bulletin right away, but here is the Acura version: http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/misc/...iag/03-001.pdf
(I live in the rust belt. The BPS is the common one here. It is over the LR corner of the gas tank. The 2-way valve attached to it gets replaced at the same time. Once in a great while, it wipes out the PCM because the windings shorted.)
