Tire Pressure Question

i have a 2k2 civic si/ex with stock tires. i just bought a tire guage after 10,000km of driving, lazy me. well the manual says 30 psi rear/front. i checked and they are all at 40 psi. is that safe and good? i let some air out of the tires to 30 psi and they look like a saggy beer belly. i think 30 psi is too little maybe because i'm used to bikes at nearly 50 psi. what do u guys recommend or have it at?

well, it depends. when your tires are hot, the pressure will increase so were you measuring the tire pressure while they were hot? On the door jam & manual, it says 30psi but that is the measured tire pressure when they are cold. Maybe to begin with your tires were at 30 but measuring them while they're hot (and therefore at an increased pressure) you read 40 psi. did i explain that well? if not, ask me to break it down

You can't go wrong busting out that owner's manual and doing what it says. 30 to 35 is fine. It's a radial and supposed to have some pooch on the sides where it contacts the pavement. Not like a bike tire at all. Measure when they are cold or cool.

I dunno bout you guys, but i had my tires @ 40psi cold, i felt that they were like hell, so i changed it to 35 psi hot. corners better IMO. I might be wrong , but i seemed to feel less bumps and corner better with the lower pressure..

your right, but its because when the tires run over a rock the tires groove to the shape of the rock because it has room to expand around the rock with less pressure, hope i explain that clear. but did u notice your car seems slower?

to the other posts, yes i did measure with hot tires, stupid me. drove for about and 1hr local before that. will try again tomorrow morning though.

easiest way to inflate your tires is burn test.

lay a patch of rubber down. if its heavier in teh center, too much pressure. too light on teh inside, not enuff pressure.

I run mine at 30psi like the manual says to. The more you inflate them, the harsher your ride gets. The manufacturer usually specifies a certain number for a reason. You should get the most mpg at the recommended pressure.
