Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
Your comparing Chinese junk coilovers to one made by one of the best suspension manufacturers on the planet.
The people that like D2, rokor, k-sport and those types of coilovers really don't understand suspensions and probably have never ridden or for that matter driven a well built car. The difference in construction quality, ride and performance cannot be compared. Find someone who started out with a higher end coil like Tein or KW and down graded to D2 and they cannot stand them, contrary to the guys who have little or no experience with high end products giving them great reviews. It's like putting a Hyundai accent next to a BMW 335i, they're in different leagues.
I vote you spend the extra money and buy the variant 2.

hmm made in china or manufactured in germany i think you already knew the answer before you asked the question but in my opinion because its just a daily driven EM2 i would get progress you can't beat there quality at there price range.

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
if u want a true high end suspension for a low end price, look into koni yellows and ground control
they take a lot of work to install but they are much better most out there and comparable to the KW v2 or the teins SS.
between D2 or KW, id get the KW V2 because it has adjustable dampening.
even the progress CS1 arent damening adjustable which automatically puts it lower than the KW v2, tein SS or koni

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
really you choose kw over D2 just because it has adjustable dampening and i would still choose a full coilover like progress over a pieced together setup like ground control and koni your out your mind saying progress is below that setup.

^You rep progress so hard they should start paying you man
I would choose koni w/gcs if I tracked my car or hand a ton of suspension mods and wanted the dampening adjustment and ability to order custom spring rates.
I would choose progress if I wanted a stanced daily with occasional spirited driving, but not an extensively modified suspension that required the ability to make subtle adjustments.
Both set-ups you can go hella low on.

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
there is nothing wrong with the progress CS1, they are just not in the same league as koni, tein or KW due to the non-adjustability when it comes to dampening. u cannot fine tune ur car without a complete rebuild.
Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
yeah but remember they just want something for daily driving thats it. there is no essential need for adjustablility so thats just spending unnecessary funds in my opinion.

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
The reality is as well, the majority of people set their dampening adjustments when they install and then never adjust them again. They only buy coilovers so they can adjust ride height.

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
and it takes me less than 1 min to adjust all 4.
but my point was that the progress CS1 was in a different class than the KW v2, yellows, tein SS...etc.
is the dampening feature necessary? no. but is it a bonus to have? yes.
(just like many other things we put on our car that have extra features that cost more)
Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
Well thank you guys for the feedback. The reason I was asking, is that i want it low, but it's gotta be soft too man, i dont want my insides moving inside of me everytime i hit a pot hole lol. But yes it would be nice to adjust them, so I can drive the car a little harder

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
If you go extremely low the ride won't be to comfortable regardless of what set-up you choose.
GC/Koni and Progress are probably your best options if low is your main goal. Tein SS and KW V2 are more performance coilovers, they don't go respond well to being bottomed completely out.

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
well i dont want it to be so low to where it drags, just low enought to look good with some 16's or 17's, where it doesnt have an ugly gap or anything. Maybe 1.5"- 2", something like that

GC is a lot of work to install and almost not worth it unless u truly Luke working on ur car. I suggest u don't go that route

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
tokico d-specs are the pre-assembled equivalent of koni yellows, paired with gc sleeves they would have been my choice had I not gone with tein ss. Pheet has d-specs on gc sleeves, take a look at his build thread to check out his stance and ask how he likes them.

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
i would never put anything made in china on my car. life is too important. its not like buying other junk that just breaks and you throw it away a month later. if suspension breaks, you crash and possibly die.

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
oh really? like what. i have ordered quite a few replacement parts for this car (sensors, trim panels, etc and the package always says MADE IN JAPAN and sometimes USA or canada. i have never seen made in china on a single part i bought and ive prolly bought hundreds of things over the years. if any package says made in china, i throw it away instantly. the ONE time i saw china was on the 8thgen interior illumination package. all of it was made in japan except for the switch, which was made in china. so i threw out the switch (looked and felt like junk) and hardwired the lights.

Lol I was being sarcastic gearbox. Poking fun of the fact that almost all consumer goods we have/use is made china. From cell phones to headunits
Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
its hard to tell if they failed or the driver crashed into something either way i would never get D2s or rokkor or raceland like these

Re: D2 RS Coilovers VS. KW Variant 2
what the hell kinda coilovers are these??!?!?!
i dont think even chinese **** are THAT bad? can it?
the coilovers in the pix must have come from a car that's been in an accident.
////edit +add
upon further inspection, looks like the redrilled the top where the coilover is mounted???? maybe thats the reason why the suspension took a ****? car suspension are built very specifically and any alteration is functioning-dynamics can really F things up
