Beginner D16z6 build

Ok, heres whats up. I have a 97 civic LX with a D16z6 vtec engine. I have around a 2000$ budget but i want to do it in steps (bolt on first then internal work later.) Where should i start for Bolt on parts. For total power i want around 300$. But like i said i want to do this in steps. What should i do first?

if you're gonna go with a cam your best bet is a whole valve train upgrade thats what I did with my Y8 so to make it easier on yourself do everything while its all apart
