How low can Tokico blues go?
How low can Tokico blues go?
Most of the time when I see them mentioned, they're recommended at ~1.7 inches, but I was wondering if they can go lower. I would love to go down 1.7 inches but eventually I'll want to go lower and I want to know if it's a matter if just getting shorter springs or will I need to get new shocks too? Otherwise, I should just save for adjustable coilovers.
The most I'd want to go is probably around 2.5 inches. Nothing extreme, but definitely no wheel gap.

If your main goal is to lower below 2.0'' then save for progress full coils, tokico d-spec or koni yellow w/ gc sleeves. It's just so much easier to go that route, but to answer your question..
A set of tokico blues could be made to work at very low ride heights with two methods:
1. Shorten the damper shaft, by doing this you essentially do a cheap revalve and prevent the damper from constantly running bottomed out, which is what causes them to blow.
2. Buy ground control extended top hats, apparently they do make them for our cars and they just aren't listed on the site. You might listed fot the DC5, not out cars.

Re: How low can Tokico blues go?
well like everything, there is a measure of tolerance built in. im sure you could go as low as you want with the tokicos but they wouldnt last nearly as long. 2 inch is prolly fine without any issues, but any more and i doubt the shocks would last more than a year before blowing. and the ride would prolly suck. im already barely tolerating my 1 inch drop. i could never imagine going any lower. and thats just the ride quality, not to mention all the scraping and i would prolly rip off my lip kit any lower. i already scrape them and the exhaust with a 1 inch drop lol.

Re: How low can Tokico blues go?
i wouldnt even go with 2"
my friend had blues on his civic and he was dropped around 2" with neuspeed.
it lasted for about 22k miles (which is about a year of driving for him) and both front blew.
maybe he just got the bad luck of the draw but i would say no more than around 1.5"

Re: How low can Tokico blues go?
If you want to drop lower than 1-1.5", maybe your best bet would be a full coilover system, Tien, Progress, Megan etc. I've got K-sports and I love them. I have barely 1 finger gap all around. I tried to go lower but the bottom base of the front coilovers were making contact with the CV joint boot. Could've adjusted the spring perch but that would make the ride unbearable. Also, I'm already scraping on speed bumps and driveways and its a big hassle. I think its typical with our year cause I see other years and they're slammed, but they go over speed bumps although they still scrape, if I was any lower, I would probably do some damage. Doesn't help that I have 2.25 exhaust piping also.
Re: How low can Tokico blues go?
Ah well that answers my question. I'll probably still get blues and springs and go about 1.7 inches and ride that for a while, to see if I can tolerate the ride and what it's like being lowered. Then later on I can always sell them (I doubt I'll have problems reselling) and get full coilovers.
Thanks for the info
