3 speaker component set a good idea?
I was looking at the JL Audio XR component set and I noticed they have a set with a 6.5", 4", and 1" speakers. I am not really familiar with this type of setup and I was just wonderign what it would be good for? What type of music? What is the purpose of the 4"? Also, where would you put the 4"? I want to know mostly just to learn something about them, and maybe if they are worth it I would pick them up. Thanks

easiest way to get good imaging is by pointsourcing yrou sound. this means all yoru sound comes from a single point. of course, this is impossible cause you cant get a single speaker to play 20,000 Hz and 20 Hz also.
so theoretically you can get a 2 way set to image better than a three way set, but as each speaker is playing a different set of frequencies, each speaker is not working as hard to play as large a range as a 2 way set.
6 on one side to half a dozen on teh other side. but most of teh really hardcore SQ competitors, as wel as sets are 2 way. but really, for a daily driver, its what will fit yoru situation best......

I Current;y have a 3way setup and it has it's good points..but for true audipphile or competition quality sound you need very very good speaker placement for staging and imaging. Because our cars have an interior that's like 75% hard plastic it's a hard vehicle to have proper imaging without expensive EQ's and Time delay units.... ways are really alot easier and in general will sound better... I"m soon to be ditching my focal -way setup for a 2 way Rainbow setup to simplify things and hopefull get better sound.

<< you said you cant fit a 6 in kicks in a manual...... I found a solution, but would like to know yours.... or do you have an automatic? >>
Me..no I'm selling my kicks and putting the 6.5's in the door and buying new kicks from honda ($48CAD) 6.5's will fit no prob in an auto.. in a manual though I'd have to bite my tongue and say it can be done..buy you definately need the right speaker with great off axis rsponse to pull it off.
