Glass polishing

Anybody know the best way to deal get those micro scratches on the windhield ?
My daily driver coupe has 27,000 miles and the winshield is so scratched that it is a real pain with the low sun angles. The must be from tiny sand and dirt form the highway .

Can I use a window polish or a window clay - or is this a professional job ?
any product recomendations would be helpful.

Thanks.

Re: Glass polishing

you can use clay but it will just clean off all the dirt. glass is hard to polish and dangerous if you use a drill attachment. they sell kits at the auto store or you can use cerium oxide. just go slow and keep the buffer moving otherwise you could heat up the glass too much and crack it. but if you are talking about the hundreds of micro chips from rocks, it will not work on those. its only for minor surface scratches that you cant see anyways. to be honest it would be easier and more effective to replace the windshield.

UGH !

Thanks for the input- i will try a small area and see what happens.
I plan to polish by hand to see if that is even remotely effective.

Re: Glass polishing

Contaminants can be clayed/polished off, chips/scratches cannot

Hope that helps

Re: Glass polishing

I have millions of chips on my windshield too from highway driving. You can really see if when facing the sun and it actually lowers visibility greatly. If it really bothers you a lot and you do lots of highway driving expect to replace the windshield every 3-4 years
