Exclamation 2004 Civic EX SE... Steering, Fuel Gauge and Ebrake problems.

Hello everyone my name is Daniel.
I am new here to the forum. I've never been on an automotive forum since i've always been on aviation forums but with this being my first car and a Honda I am glad I found this dedicated forum to Civics.

I am now just having 3 problems with my car:

#1) When I bought it from the private owner he had taken it to the alignment shop to get aligned but after having driven the car for 2 days i noticed that my steering wheel was not centered. The alignment of the wheels was perfect but to go straight I must hold my steering wheel very slightly to the left and it's annoying!

#2) The fuel gauge sometimes I think plays tricks on me and will display less fuel than what I believe that I really have. After some time having gone by the gauge will go back up or down out of nowhere.

#3) The ebrake, last night after having gone to a friends house, I backed out of their drive way and continued driving with the ebrake on for 3 minutes. Until I saw the red BRAKE light I was shocked to see that I was rolling like that. I worried that I had broken my rear drum brakes. When I got home I tested out the ebrake going 10MPH and it wouldn't stop the car! My ebrake takes like 13-14 clicks to be fully up is that normal? I'm not sure if the rear brakes are even working but my front disc brakes are new.

I have $50 for any one of these repairs.

Any help for these three problems?

Thanks.

My EM2:

1. Look down at the bottom of the steering column shaft and you'll see where it splines with the shaft that goes thru the firewall. Park it with the wheels straight, undo that bolt and rotate the steering column shaft a tooth or two. You may have to unbolt the column from the dash.

2. It's 3am, if someone doesn't beat me to it I'll tell ya tomorrow. For now it's either a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor), bad wire, or the guage assembly itself is bad.

3.There's an adjustment nut under the rear of the center console (between the seats). Pull up the lever 1 click and:

The lever should be at 6-7 clicks to apply the brakes fully.

Sorry about the crappy pic, phone cam.

*Download the service manual, it can be your best friend. Or for a paper one go here: http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage...051&Style=helm

OK, I'm back. For the gas gauge do the following test first:

1. Push and hold the trip/reset button
2. Turn the lighting switch on
3. Turn the ignition to ON(II)
4. Within 5 seconds, turn the lighting switch OFF, then ON and OFF again
5. Within 5 seconds, release the trip/reset button, then push and release the button 4 times

The beeper sounds 5 times. Then all the indicators blink. Then the odo/trip segment blinks 5 times. Then all the needles sweep from min to max back to min. Then it will run a communications check and display either all 8's or the word error. 8's are good, error means the connection between the cluster and ECM/PCM is bad. If anything doesn't work properly in test mode replace the cluster.

EDIT: Nevermind I got it to work!

I received the fluctuating needles and lights.
I got all 888888.8 so it's all good I'm guessing.

Thanks alot for that test! Appreciate it.

Re: 2004 Civic EX SE... Steering, Fuel Gauge and Ebrake problems.

Just FYI, I have a 2005 Civic and also had a crooked steering wheel, only mine was to the right. Car didn't seem to pull, tracked pretty straight.

I had it aligned twice and they couldn't get it straight.

When my LF wheel bearing started making noise I replaced it and bam, straight steering wheel.

Just something to keep in mind, some shops will do a free alignment check.
