Newbie driving question.

I just got my civic recently and its my first time driving manual trans.
Its going great but I have a question.

Say when I'm in 4 gear going down a street at 45 or so, and I need to slow down about 5mph.

I just let go of the gas?
When I do I notice some vibration and very slight nose diving from the car. I'm mainly worried about the vibration, is that just the engine slowing me down or what?

Is this how its supposed to be?

I just want to make sure, I really like my civic.

Re: Newbie driving question.

if there is alot of shaking, it could be a bad motor/trans mount. technically yes once you are in gear you should not have to press the clutch unless switching gears.

the shaking could also be that you are in to high of a gear for your speed and if you just let it coast in 4th with out holding clutch, as it slows down the shaking will start. when you want to slow down without using clutch and brake or nuetral and brake, you should downshift: 4th gear clutch to 3rd, as the rpms reduce downshift to 2nd etc.. hope that made sense haha

Re: Newbie driving question.

Yea your probably not downshifting. As you slow and get better at driving standard you will be more comfortable at downshifting. Until then, when you start to feel the shaking put the clutch in.

Nice car BTW

Re: Newbie driving question.

Dont let off the gas completely slowly take your foot off the gas and it wont shake so much, if need be downshift to 3rd and slow down some.
