94civicd16z6's build and research thread

stock ej1 94 ex coupe. just found lip and skirts and FINALLY getting closer to finishing my car! stock in winter and 205/40/17 in summer. how much should i drop without rubbing?? just wunna close up the gap between the fender so it looks smooth.thinking maybe 1.5".. i've been there done that with a slammed 90' accord with 17"s... rides like crap! but my ej1 with stock springs and shocks rides perfect with the rims on it. also, can i just buy the drop springs and use the stock shocks? is the springs all i need? thanks!

Re: ej1 17" drop inches??

If you drop on stock struts then you will have a terrible ride, because stock struts can't handle being bottomed out constantly. If you want to drop you'll need to upgrade to better struts, tokico blues are a great option.

You will also need a camber kit if you want to avoid burning through tires, because the stock camber kit cannot be adjusted to compensate for a lowered car.

For the springs I'd suggest tein s.tech.

Re: ej1 17" drop inches??

1.5 inches is the perfect drop.

Struts, camber kit and springs is all you need, unless you have other worn out suspension components that are due to be replaced.

also not a bad time to replace any ball joint upper or lower control arm bushings. and do a major inspection of parts, you dont want to get it slammed then have a problem ya know?

i say damn near exactly.. lol. thanks for the input, after much thought, definetly going clean and smooth, not loud and ricey. i still want to put underbody light on it tho! not like those, mine are gunna be strobe lights! going to look sick cruising down the road with lights flashing! just gotta watch out for the red and blue.. but thanks a lot for talking me through lowering my car and into a lip kit instead of alien ship body kit... lol

Re: ej1 17" drop inches??

dont wunna make a hundread threads.. should of named this one "101 questions" lol.. but any help on finding a nice rear lip fo 94 civic coupe?? searched for ever and no luck. i did find this one on jdmshit and its ok, but i think this one looks nicer on this 96 coupe loove this 96 coupe! i hope my car looks about like that with my 17s on it when i lower it 1.5" probably.. and doesn't rub!! but help on a nice clean rear lip would be much obliged.. maybe one without a cut for the exhaust? might run a dual outlet chrome tip, maybe single but no coffee can. can i fit a 96+ lip on a 94 civic bumper? like this tip? i was thinking maybe a dual but i really like this single, 2.5" outlet, not too big, maybe a 3" tho.. unsure about the upturn on the end tho.. kinda like it..

Re: ej1 17" drop inches??

ok as far as the rear lip goes (because ill keep my underbody light comments to myself lol) Ebay is gold for this, granted you will not have a real Type R....Mugen lip, they do look good and can be had for fairly cheap. To be honest though there is no point to run duals on a civic......you dont gain any hp from running duals. And coffee cans aka fart cans, arent to bad if you dont get the cheap apc....pilot crap from advanced. Apexi, Greddy, Ractive Megan and whatnot all make good brand mufflers and they have a decent tone. Even the ebay ones once again sound decent, just remember, the smaller the exhaust the more back pressure, the bigger the less. When people go with bigger exhaust without proper cat and resinators thats when they start to sound ricey. Also the rear lips come with exhaust cut outs always man.

Re: ej1 17" drop inches??

+1 on the ebay lip kits, for something that is nothing more than a piece of molded plastic you can go cheap without needing to worry about sacrificing quality. If the fit isn't perfect then you just need to warm it up with a heat gun.

If you have a million questions to ask then we can make this you build/research thread, I could change the title if you like?

well dang, fml. lol. but as long as they are decent quality and fit then i will still be happy.. i guess. but what do ya think about going stock fenders and hood OR "viper hood" and "gt concept" fenders i pictured below? keep the stock look or do think this would look good on my coupe? personally i think the viper hood and gt fenders would look good with the lip kit and skirts. just looking for opinions, not trying to go alien ship!! thanks jay and mind.

what matters is what you like dude. Personally im a fan of oem look with lip kits slammed...etc. Not big into body kits or fenders or any of that.....but once again its about what you like. If it was me id stay with the stock fenders and go CF hood n trunk but thats just me.

New body panels are pretty expensive and early civics are plentiful in junk yards, I'd just hit up a local yard and look for one with good condition body panels.

Re: ej1 17" drop inches??

we just bought a hood for an ef today for like $60. i mean your lookin at about $100-$150 for all the body parts you need, plus painting them to color match. id say local junkyard or craigslist homie. best 2 options.

Re: ej1 17" drop inches??

and a lot of the sites online, ebay etc., sell "oem fenders and hoods" that are like half the price, just thinner. but they also have somewhat smoother looking indentation lines in hood and fenders, looks kinds different.. so, i am off to searching the yards and craigslist to see what i can find. looking to pick up the thin jdm side moldings, cant find them for less than $200 tho!!

Re: 94civicd16z6's build and research thread

no need to buy anything jdm unless you rly have the $ for it. usdm oem side moldings will work fine. usdm fenders usually $25 a piece online or a jyard and a usdm oem hood can usually be had from $50-100 depending on how lucky you are. You HAVE to use the coupe or the hatch hood though, sedans ovehang on the headlights....I know this lol.

searching for fenders and hood still.. and yes they are expensive, but the jdm moldings look soo good! saving up money before paint job. so what, stoopid americans have the moldings like 3 times the thickness because we're morons and dent up doors? lol. just bought this rear lip for $90 shipped off jdmshit.com i'm waiting for summer to install, but now i have front and rear lip, and skirts! just need fenders and hood, a little bondo on rear well cancer, and maybe the jdm moldings and thanks for the talk mindbomber and jay! without you guys this thread would be dead..

found this hood on ebay for $169 shipped. 23 people bought it and all 100% ratings so it might be worth it.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...63124040#rpdId also found the fenders left and right for $140 shipped after discount. http://www.dnhautoparts.com/auto-par...60261sr3a00zz/ here is the left one. what do you guys think, worth my $ or keep looking? i'm just getting the primered parts because i plan to repaint my car asap.

Re: 94civicd16z6's build and research thread

If you planning on painting the car a few extra minutes spraying primer won't be a huge issue, to be honest I would definitely stick with used OEM body panels. At my local scrap yard a hood is $50 out the door, because you don't need to pay for shipping. Plus since civics are so common in scrap yards you have enough selection to find parts that are in really good shape.

Re: 94civicd16z6's build and research thread

thanks for the advice guys. i have delt with aftermarket fenders before and not too happy about the thinness.. took your advice and found some on the list for under $50 shipped! both driver and passenger side, both in good condition. cherry red and grey tho, my cars black so i'm going to primer b4 i put them on. should i just clean them and spray primer or sand off stock clearcoat or what? waiting to find a good deal on a hood now..

I wouldn't go with bondo and fiber glass, fix it properly. If it's just a couple small patches of rust then you can drill them out and have a body shop weld in small patches.
